Refilling a ZF8...
This is not rocket science.
Step 1: Fill until it dribbles from fill port.
2: Loosely install fill plug.
3: Start vehicle. Run through reverse, 1st, 2nd, and then 2,000 rpm. Hold each for 5-10 seconds. (Some vehicles say the wheels should rotate. Shrug.)
4: With engine...
Pan swap
The ZF8 drain and fill (obviously needed, and desired, for a pan swap) is not too complex despite what you read. The main issue is a tight temperature range to start and finish the fluid fill. The goal is to keep it between 30C and 50C (<- from memory, don't base YOUR drain and fill on...
Folks,
Here's my experience installing an aftermarket transmission pan for my truck's ZF8HP75 transmission. I'll run you through what I did, as I did it, so you can make your own decision. It'll be a bit long, but I want to be thorough.
The ZF8 transmission has a pan with a built-in filter. If...
Another happy purchaser from Mark Dodge here.
Bought my 2021 from another dealer...who was able to go below MD's price, but that individual was soon thereafter separated from that dealership. Guess I got the "out the door" special! ;) )
Bought my son's 2022 from MD. Based on my previous...
Yeah. I had that once.
Simple solution: drizzle some cooking oil over your cabin air intake. (Mesh screen under the passenger windshield washer.) Turn the heat FULL UP. <- That's important.
Bring some salt and just wait. The popping may startle you, but don't let it distract you. Catch the...
I tried that with my son's Tradesman. I ended up with 5 codes: B16D7; B16DF; B16AF; B16B3; B16B7.
Those were for rear brakes, rear turn, and backup lights. So, no bueno in my experience. I sent emails back and forth with lasfit, and even bought new replacements (my pocket), and still no good.
EcoDiesel here, so that's makes mine a bit different. I change at 5,000 miles (pennzoil euro full synthetic 5w-40). Always do oil and fuel filter as well.
Is that needed? I don't know. But I have never had an internal engine failure in millions of miles of ownership. And, the engines I've torn...
Several months ago I took the plunge. I ordered a tune from Green Diesel Engineering, Diesel Tuning for Performance and Fuel economy
(See my sig: driving a 2021 Ram EcoDiesel.)
I checked all the boxes. In just two days (North Carolina), it all arrived: a new ECU, my original ECU (that I had...
I'm at 33,000 miles. I'll swap the pan at 35k, when I do my oil change. PPE has 2 pans, a deep pan and a deeper pan. ;) I chose the smaller of the two. I don't do much towing and I thought the extra fluid/cooling capacity of that pan would be fine and I didn't want to lose any ground...
That power loss is indicative of a grenaded HPFP. It may NOT be that...but I'd be pretty concerned. Ensure that is documented.
Oops...I see you posted this 3 weeks ago: what was the result of your appointment?
I'm grateful that my dad had walk 4 miles to school UPHILL BOTH WAYS, every day. Now that I live on top of that hill he spent all those years walking up, I'm okay with my 3.21s. Every drive is downhill... Thanks, Pops!
:)
Yeah...gotta give some praise to the RAM engineers for having fill AND drain plugs on both diffs (front and back) and the transfer case. I have always been dumbfounded at the need to remove diff covers, then seal them (and almost every sealant instructs to wait at least 24 hours for curing...
