The "Handy" 4.7L Valve Train Refresh - 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Quadcab 2WD

The 4.7L Magnum V8 in my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Quadcab needs a valve train refresh. The thing has always ticked at idle since I bought it new in November 2002. But now it's gotten pretty loud. It has about 260,000 miles on it and the timing chain is just about done. But I figure I've got a...

Warning to do it yourself oil changes may cause warranty denial

You will need to cough up that lake front desert property because I know many dealership service departments that don't make any money. But they help sell new cars as I've described and that is why they exist. Plus, I'm ready to ski in that beautiful desert sun. 😎 Here's my point. The car...

Droning noise when on eco mode

I have a 2021 Laramie with the 5.7 Hemi and no Eco-boost. Ours has no detectable drone when in the MDS (Eco Mode) kicks in. In most cases, the stock exhaust is designed to completely kill the drone. I can't think of any other reason you should have drone other than a change in the exhaust...

Warning to do it yourself oil changes may cause warranty denial

It must be different where I live. What makes this different in the different markets? There's likely too many variables to know and each market is different. Maybe the fact that the same car I can buy in the Dallas - Fort Worth areas will often be $5,000 to $7,000 more in the Little Rock...

    Really Weird

This sounds a lot like your backup warning system. My 2021 Laramie will do something similar if I try to back up with the tailgate down. The km/hr reading is likely from accidentally hitting the Ok button on the left side of the steering wheel. That instantly converts you to metric speed...

Warning to do it yourself oil changes may cause warranty denial

Arkansas is a different kind of place, I guess. In Central Arkansas, it's very hard to get a good deal on a new vehicle, but the service departments at the two CDJR dealerships we use have been nothing but outstanding so far. And by "so far" I mean over the last 10 years. On the Scat Pack, I...

    Hellwig? Hell, yeah!

Alright! AAFES had my bar drop-shipped from Hellwig and it's been shipped! No long wait for me. By next week, I will be riding smooth!(y)

Thoughts After First Road Trip - New 2021 Laramie 4WD

Not derailed. Great question. Anybody reading this thread in the future with the same issues I have will want to know the torque specs, and they are currently hard to find.

Carolina Squat banned in own state

I admit this is not a good look. But if we let the state come after the squatted trucks of those lacking good taste, next time, the state will come after our lift kits, off-road tires and performance tuning. To protect our own freedoms, we have to protect the freedoms of others that use their...

    Hellwig? Hell, yeah!

It's possible that in the manufacturing process, the press that flattens the ends of the bar also stamps the three boltholes. But as the bar cools, the holes get slightly deformed. To remedy this, they true the holes up using some kind of beveled drill bit or stone grinding point. That may be...

Thoughts After First Road Trip - New 2021 Laramie 4WD

Here's a figure showing where the body mount bolts are and their torque specs for a 2019 and likely newer (DT) Ram 1500.

Thoughts After First Road Trip - New 2021 Laramie 4WD

The 2019 TBS called for 97 ft. lbs. for the C-pillar mount bolts. But since the C-pillar bolts took about a half turn to get to 80 ft. lbs. I figure that was enough. Here's a link: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10162537-9999.pdf

    2019 fuel tank skid plate

Just looking them up online, it looks there are at least two different skid plates, a skid plate cross member and a skid plate bracket. And those are just the parts with "skid plate" in the name that are associated with the fuel tank. If me, I'd contact one of these online Mopar sellers...

    Alignment

Our 2019 Charger Scat Pack developed an alignment issue with the rear wheels that my go-to alignment shop couldn't fix. We ended up taking it to the dealership that fixed it for free under warranty. I watch the guy do it. He was very good. PS: I got the lifetime alignment from Firestone for...

Warning to do it yourself oil changes may cause warranty denial

I guess we are lucky. The oil changes at our local dealership are usually cheaper than anywhere else but Walmart. And we often have a coupon to get the oil change even cheaper. Doing this also insures we get all the free recalls and upgrades done. On one of our past cars, we got new stuff...

Thoughts After First Road Trip - New 2021 Laramie 4WD

I am not in a hurry for them right now. This is all about tweaking things to get them just like we want them. And as it usually goes, we will trade it for something else before I finish. Right now I'm thinking about a 2023 Power Wagon on the DT body. :p PS: AAFES is drop-shipping directly...

They are near the back of the cab on each side. The bolts for them have 21mm heads rather than 18mm. Not sure of anything else. I will try to take a photo of one of them if my sweetie makes in home from work before dark. ;)
