    4WD

4Auto should be safe all the time and for most of the situations you would want 4wd. I don’t think 4 Hi has a specific max speed, but I don’t like to use it on the interstate. I only use 4 Low for pulling irrigation center-pivot towers out when they are stuck, or helping pull the semi out if it...

North edition a good off road truck?

Any 4x4 pickup can do quite a bit of off-roading, and that North edition adds some good features to make it even better. Of course your definition of off-road matters, but you could do really well with your North edition. If I recall it is like the off-road package without the lift and skid...

Ram Truck Introduces 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Warlock Edition:

Sorry, really late to see this and respond. The last gen Big Horn gets the 8.4 inch radio standard and most of the options in the Level 1 equipment group standard, as well. The Big Horn gets 20 inch wheels standard, and they are a bigger tire/wheel height than the 5th gen offers. There is an...

    2wd vs. 4wd

A 2wd pickup will get through a lot more than people give it credit for. I farm in a snow state, and got a 2wd pickup to save some money, thinking I was going to regret it. I have never gotten stuck after more than 5 years of winter, gravel, and off road driving and towing. That said, I have...

Ram Truck Introduces 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Warlock Edition:

Why would anyone get a new Ram when the older style is so much cheaper? ;) We all think about it in different ways. The Warlock package looks like a really good deal to me, essentially getting a last-gen Rebel for a lot cheaper. At this point I wouldn’t even consider a 5th gen Ram because the...

Is your Dealership tracking your truck without your knowledge?

Our local dealer does something similar. They call it the “Extra Mile Package”. I call it the “Extra Margin Package”. It is advertised as though it’s a free perk, and then your bill shows a $695 bill for add ons. A few of the things are okay, like free maintenance, car washes, door edge guards...

Affiliate Reward Pricing Options (Friends/Family Pricing)

They may not have checked it because they may not have actually used it. The last 2-3 vehicles I’ve purchased from FCA I brought up that I qualified for a similar program, and each time it would have resulted in my paying more as it was exclusive to other discounts. At Ford, however, I was able...

    Big Horn Build vs Laramie

Based on MSRP, I agree the Laramie is a better value, since a Big Horn can cost more than a Laramie with the same options (Big Horn package 2, LED headlights, Alpine stereo, etc.) that come standard on the Laramie. The main issue is the discount you can get on them. Last I checked, the local...

    Grand design reflection

I agree with the comfort level advice, too. If it feels unsafe to you when driving or just looking at the load, don’t ignore those feelings. I regularly tow a 12kish flatbed with my 8kish rated last gen Ram 1500, and a few times a year have to tow a tall seed wagon that can approach 16-18k. It...

    Insurance rates

My insurance usually goes down with a new vehicle, then rises over the next few years as the safety of a ‘new’ vehicle fades away, then lower again after some point as the value of the vehicle depreciates. That’s my standard pattern anyways.

Why Order an eLocker or Limited Slip Differential?

We drive our pickups in mud all summer long during irrigation season, and we have never had a locker or limited slip differential. We have never gotten a vehicle stuck, so I do not think they are necessary unless you have a very specific reason for wanting one. With the modern traction control...

    Pentastar V6--E85 Capability

That would be great, but my guess is that is more likely a dealer listing error. Unless they have received enough pressure to change course on that already, the Ram business program corporate representative I spoke to in person indicated it wasn’t currently planned.

    V8 or V6

25 mpg on E10, around 21-22 running E85. Personally, I would still get the V8 on the Longhorn and Limited trims. The V8 performance is worth more to me personally than the luxury features with the higher trims. But again, different uses and different priorities from person to person. Some...

    V8 or V6

Also, I would always recommend the 3.21 axle ratio for regular driving. The only reasons I would go to the optional axle ratios are for a higher towing rating and for people adding bigger wheels and tires, which I have no experience with. To be fair, the tow rating for the V6 with 3.21 is...

    V8 or V6

The V6 doesn’t get enough credit. My main pickup right now has the Hemi for towing, but our other two have the V6. (All 4th gen, but engines are the same, of course) We just bought a new 2018 Ram with the V6 for my dad today, because he prefers driving it over the Hemi. It’s a great match for...

On the fence - 2019 ram or titan.

What I’m looking at in Nebraska for advertised discounts leaves a 47k Titan SV costing 33k, and a comparable 50kish Ram Big Horn ends up around 38k. One other thing to factor in is the options packaging. The Titan I’m looking at for this includes side steps, a bed liner, and navigation while the...

How bright are the 2019 Ram Lights

I still don’t understand the focus on bright headlights from safety ratings groups and a lot of others. My 2013 Ram with basic headlights are bright enough to see the road over a quarter mile in front of me. Or Is it just more of an issue for the 55+ crowd? My 2016 Charger has brighter...

    Rebel tradesman package

That’s where I am with the tradesman trim. I’m comfortable in a tradesman with a few options, but the bigger discounts tend to come on the Big Horn trim in my area. When it’s all said and done, I can usually find a Big Horn with the same options and a couple extras for the same price as a tradesman.

    Price negotiated from MSRP

What kind of price differentials has everyone been seeing when they compare a custom ordered pickup vs. buying one off the lot? In the past few years when I’ve asked about it locally, it has always been a significant cost increase. Most of the new 2019 Rams around me are advertised for about...

Affiliate Reward Pricing Options (Friends/Family Pricing)

I get this automatically with my American Soybean Association membership. I’m sure there are plenty of other groups that offer the same thing, if you can just remember to use it when the time comes to buy a vehicle. That last part is the real trick.
