Design choice or safety feature, same difference. Some manufacturers think something is unsafe that others don’t. I don’t know if it is still this way but Toyota makes it so that when you remote start their engine it turns off as soon as you open the door. I have relatives with several different Toyotas and they all behave like this. Apparently Toyota doesn’t think you should be able to keep the vehicle running once you open the door. Ram doesn’t think the door should unlock before you touch the door handle.
That’s not a “toyota” thing. It’s a market thing. And in other markets they have to do things like that. Most European auto makers do the same because that’s the law in the EU, ie BMW, Audi, Mercedes, etc. Not a toyota safety choice but a law they consider based on where they sell their vehicles.
