question about the ZF 8 speed transmission..

i know on most newer vehicles it is possible but i wasn't too sure about the ZF 8 speed.

Whatever, I noticed a difference is shifting and acceleration afterwards.

I had a ZF8 in my SQ5 and with the 034 tuner the transmission could be 'reset' and there were a number of parameters that could be adjusted, like how hard it shifted, RPM shift points, and removing the 200 lifetime launches, etc. What I don't know is how much of that tunability is tied to the ZF8 vs. VAG-specific TCU's. So if there is a way ... it'll likely be through something like the AlfaOBD or what the dealership has access to.

It’s currently the most reliable trans you can have in a vehicle right. BMW M division even swapped to it from their dual clutch for better reliability and lost next to zero performance.

It's the most reliable thing on the car.

yeah i knew BMW used them for sure, didn't know about the rest.

If you have AlfaOBD or JScan, you can reset the transmission adaptives and perform a quick relearn. Or you can adapt each clutch via the adaptation procedure.

My understanding is...
*Throttle Reset:
Power button to ON (but don't start engine), Slowly press Throttle to floor, then Slowly release Throttle from floor, then Power button cycled OFF, done.
*Transmission Reset:
Power button to ON (but don't start engine), Slowly press Throttle to floor, HOLD DOWN for 20-30 seconds, then Slowly release Throttle from floor, then Power button cycled OFF, done.
(I'm curious if the Trans Reset also does a Throttle Rest by Default??)

ZF 8speed swaps are the latest, greatest muscle car mods now days!
You can actually buy NA-LS/LS Strokers/SC'd-LS with ZF 8spd combo packages from a number of companies now.
Hot Rodders love them for the 4.71 first gear and double overdrive..plus, they are surprisingly easy to setup! A number of companies are making stand alone TCMs to use with salvaged ZFs.
I'm not a fan of Automatic transactions muscle cars, but if the right one came along..now I might bite, and do a ZF swap.
