I'm being quoted anywhere from $1300 - 1500 for front & rear pads/rotor replacement on my 2019 Ram 1500 (new style). Is this about average or way overboard?
Please also keep in mind that I'm in the north NJ metro area so that would skew prices higher than in other places. These prices are from local shops near me not the stealerships (they have "deals" and coupons but for some reason (ha) anything done there always works out to be even more $$$)

I've always done my own brakes but I'm laid up with an injury and they need to be done - Wife is also driving it now so I want to make sure it's dealt with asap. Just don't want to get (overly) screwed. Thanks.

No clue what it costs to have it done somewhere, parts at NAPA will be around $450-$500. If you search around you may be able to find them cheaper. Maybe Ask a friend if they want to make a few bucks?

Are you including rotors in that cost from NAPA? You can just get pads for under $200.

Here’s a total from Napa, with 20% off coupon that you can always get.

I wasn't questioning your total, I was questioning what parts you used to get it. It says 6 items, so yeah you put 4 rotors in there plus the brake sets.

see if you can have the rotors turned instead of replacing. NAPA will turn them for like $30 each. That will save you about $250 over buying decent rotors.

How many miles on the truck, I’d bet it doesn’t even need rotors.

i got these from rock auto for my RAM. they are a European company and HIGH quality, believe it of not the EU actually has better requirements. i am very happy with them. i have had junk rotors in the past and nice Brembo's. the brand name is Top Notch it's hard to find on google in the USA because they are euro i also got a set for the wifes town and country.
not all rotors are created equal. cheap are just that cheap! quality rotors are actually balanced and coated to prevent rust.

I got new tires at Mavis in North Jersey a couple weeks ago and was told i needed new rear pads and rotors. They quoted $700 for duralast rotors, pads and installation for rear only. Your quote is on par with mine, noting I didn’t shop around. I bought front and rear powerstop z36 rotors and pads on amazon for ~$600 and installed them over a weekend.

Paid $550 for pads and rotors front and back. Wasted 2 days, which is worth thousands to me. $8 T-30 torx head bit broke off in the rotor set screw. Diamond wheel grooved the head of said set screw, but couldn’t get it loose. Had to weld a washer and nut to it. Then had to order set screw replacement, which is sold in a 4 pk = $16. Oh wait, I had to buy anti-seize ($20) because I couldn’t find mine. I had caliper grease (probably saved $15) and of course had to buy a fresh can of hi-VOC extra professional brake cleaner $9. If you’re not using an entire can of brake cleaner per brake job, then you’re not truly living. 20 precious minutes driving around to bed pads. 30 minutes cleaning up all the tools and crap. Now I’m posting investing more than 10 minutes to warn you to take yours to a dealership or trusted service center, unless you are unemployed, or time is meaningless, of if you enjoy the pain of the journey no matter the cost. 2019 77k miles.

My experience with cheap pads and rotors is they cost more in the long run. The pads don't last and the rotors warp earlier. I'd rather spend a few extra $ and get good quality parts. The inexpensive Chinese parts flooding the market are junk.

I hate doing brake jobs. I pay my local mechanic for them. He's not cheap but he does good work and uses quality parts. He did the front brakes on my Tundra last fall. Rotors, Pads, Calipers, Brake Hoses and few odd parts. It was around $1600-$1700. I don't remember all the specific prices except the calipers because I was interested in the price. $259 each.

In my experience with my 5th gen, the rears wear out WAY faster than the fronts, which is completely counter to my 45 years of shade tree wrenching. In fact I just replaced the rear rotors/pads for the second time and the fronts were in GREAT shape. I used Advance Auto gold version and paid $285 total for the rear pads/rotors. The rear OEM pads went 120K miles, but I replaced fronts and rears at that time. The previous set from Advance lasted 75K miles on the rear, and I'm finding the fronts can easily go 150K miles, however I do a lot of highway miles so YMMV. By the way I'm very happy with the braking performance, and no rotor warp at all.

If I'd had time I would have ordered from Rock Auto and saved more money, but if you figure local auto parts retail will sell front and rear sets for about $600 total, then having a shop charge $1000-1200 isn't really out of line.
