E torque alternator.

I just dropped it at local mechanic last night and have opportunity to take back to dealer... if 2nd owner is covered.

Mechanical skills... I do trailer rebuilds and minor motorcycle and outboard repairs. Trucks... just don't have time or patience to learn by trial and error.

Good God my thumb typing is bad...

Thanks to this thread:

I called a local dealer that immediately agreed it was covered. So I pulled it from my mechanic and its at dealer now.

But not before I tried RAM customer care first. I spoke with 4 seperate people, and referenced 8 yr/80 k Emmissions Warranty, and all declined coverage.

Thanks to all comments here I was persistent and found it under warranty!

Anybody not wanting to wait 41 days or 3 months for an mgu replacement, if you have medium high mechanical skils, can perform the $25 bearing replacement. Alternatively any good mechanic can easily do it for you, if you know one. In that case, maybe the labor is $150, maybe more or maybe less.

Does tbat 8/80 Emissions warranty cover 2nd owners?

MAybe I overlooked a second owner that had this was covered.

I have 2020 limited, I bought with 18k. Now I have 47k miles and mine is going.

Thanks
I'm no expert but I would think the emissions warranty would transfer. I recommend taking it to the dealership to double-check and to get your name on the list.

Can some link or send the PDF of the warranty that says the generator is covered? I am having trouble finding a tangible document with it

Just for information, this warranty information should be in the truck's owner's manual. The thick one. Or online if the owners manual is missing.

Anyone who's had the alternator replace notice a hot smell that wasn't there before? I figured it was because it was new--but it's lingered.

I had mine replaced months ago now and its smelling like the windings in the MGU are still cooking. its very strange, and doesn't give me a lot of confidence in its longevity. I waited 8 weeks for the replacement to arrive. I really don't want to go through that again if the thing burns up a second time.

Well, I'm feeling better now that I know its not just me.

Update here... just got my truck back. Almost 60 days waiting for replacement MGU.

I gotta say, Suncoast Chrysler,Jeep, RAM in St. Pete FL has great service dept. Gave me a loaner truck and kept me aware of progress getting part.

Stellantis or Ram needs to do something about the price of The MGU the used prices are getting out of hand ,just seen this on Ebay .1000002505.jpg

Just another data point for anyone else dealing with this - 2021 Laramie 1500 5.7 e-torque w/41,000. Bearing noise started a few hundred miles ago. Took it to the dealer today and they confirmed it's the MGU.

Service manager told me there are none available in the U.S. and approximately 5,000 on order. Right now he's hearing 1-2 months. About 75 are on a priority list as the vehicles are dead (main fuse blown which is a common failure mode). I am on the next tier with about 1,000 other owners. The rest on order are for spares at dealers/warehouses. The SM *thinks* the delay is because they are coming out with a new revision of the MGU. I sure hope so - 40,000 miles isn't much for a major component to fail. Just outside of the regular warranty, too. Thankfully I had a 5yr/60,000 extended.

I think those of us affected should also file a problem report with the NHTSA. Those reports do carry some weight in getting a formal recall issued. If you do file a report, stress the safety concern of a possibility of the vehicle losing all power while in operation and traffic and/or the MGU pulley shearing off basically causing a catastrophic engine failure. Here's a link: Report a Safety Problem | NHTSA

And here's a 2022 RAM TSB I found describing the MGU bearing noise problem and proper flashing technique. So RAM clearly knows about this problem. S2208000009 RAM Powertrain Technical Service Bulletin
I loath litigiousness, but this problem has class action written all over it given so many are affected by a known issue and Stellantis is so unprepared to resolve it.
