Bilstein 5100

Ok. Newbie here with suspension parts. I've got a 21 Ram 1500 (Limited) with the air suspension. I'm not having any issues but I've always been a big fan of Bilstein struts. I'm not looking to gain or lower height, just want the most comfortable ride and Bilsteins have been the ticket with my trucks in the past. Summit says these struts work with the Ram 1500 but Bilstein's site says not to use it with the Air suspension. Just wanted to check here to see if anyone has run the B8 5100 with the air suspension and if so, can you provide feedback.

Did you look under your truck ? Did you see anything that looked like a standard strut with a spring around it ?

No. I saw a standard strut in the rear with the air compression where the spring would go. In the front, I saw a standard strut with air compression around the strut where a normal spring would go

I installed the rear 5100s on my limited w/ air suspension, they fit just fine and ride great. No issues and had them on nearly a year.

Thank you. Have you noticed any issues when adjusting the ride height with them installed?
Every once in a while when I leave the truck parked in OR2 for a period of time, it will throw a payload error and disable the height adjustment. Doesn’t happen often. Otherwise no issues, behaves just like it did.

My rear shocks were blown and these were plug and play. Rides much better.

Part number I ordered was 24-233354.

I am looking to do this on my limited, I made the switch to 35's and new wheels. tire/wheel combo added 20+ lbs per corner. Did the 5100's improve comfort/drivability/handling? any cons to making the switch? one last question did you have to use any special tools to install them?

something similar to this?

Thanks. I ordered the same ones and I'll be installing. Not sure why they don't list them as compatible because I noticed the Rebel with Air Ride has the Bilstein 4600s.

No special tools.

They are an improvement in rear ride quality in all of those dimensions as compared to the worn, bumpy (totally shot) stock shocks at 100k miles.
Only problem remaining, which is clouding my ability to really substantiate the difference, is that my front strut/airbag assembly is totally shot as well and the ride quality, rebound, damping, handling is terrible from the front end.
Even with lower tire pressures and upgraded front sway bar bushings, the front end is bumpy, harsh, and moves all over the place.

I'd like to just do an air delete since RMT had no rebuilt cores to sell last I checked. I'm at 120k now and it feelsto have worsened in the last ~20k.

Yup im basically in the same boat. I’m at 109k aftermarket front sway bar bushings and suspension maxx 2” lift end links. Made it worse with level and new wheel tire setup.

So the journey begins to improve on what’s already there. I appreciate the info!

I just replaced my rear at 90k miles and now my fronts should be replaced too. I don’t mind the air ride and Im thinking of just replacing the strut. Not sure it’s a wise idea if the air ride fails shortly after that but I did find the strut to do it.

Looking for advice!

I’m installing some 5100’s next week on my 22 1500 sport. My left front sits at 35 3/4”and my passenger side sits at 36.5”. Apparently the fuel tank sits on the driver side and that is causing the difference is level across the front (says the dealership).

I was considering putting the drivers side to clip #7 and the passenger side to clip #6 to level it out across the front. Has anyone else faced this issue or done this?

Thanks for the help.

Is this part number for the rear only? Bilstein site shows its supposed to be with rear coil springs, and they don't list any part numbers for air suspension. Wondering if the front shocks are the same for the air ride as with coil springs?

You folks i think would be much happier with the Eibach pro truck stage 2. It rides much better than the bilsteins and comes fully assembled ready to be bolted into the truck with a great eibach spring 😉 no having to take shocks apart and transfer parts over and all of that nonsense. Plus the eibach uses a threaded collar for easy adjustability on the truck to really dial in your desired height. Reason being for the better ride is the eibach is digressive valved but use linear shimming. The shimming counters the digressive stiffness for a softer oem like on road ride but the digressive valving helps mitigate body roll. It's a njce combination. Bilstein on the other hand uses strictly digressive valvinf so the ride will be more firm, as digressive valving is the stiffest, most firm shock valving.

Bilsten requires complete disassembly of the front end and the shocks to adjust height. Anyone interested in this setup, feel free to reach out! We offer special pricing for forum members here at Hammer Performance!
