Will there be a return to actual tunes since EPA regulations being returned to pre-2009 standards

I've heard multiple times that many tuners have simply stopped offering any good tunes since the EPA began cracking down on everyone a few years back. I'm looking for a good, efficient tune on my stock 22 5.7L. I'm tired of 13mpg city and would like my truck to run and shift properly. The only tunes I find when searching the forum are Greene and Hemifever.

What tunes are available now?
Does anyone offer an 8speed transmission tune?

The fuel mileage really makes no sense, my 99 conversion van w/200k miles gets better city mileage 16.5... I honestly think my Ram should be getting about 18mpg city

What's wrong with Jay Greene or Hemifever?

Watching.........................

I'm kinda in same boat. But I did buy HPTuners, and a brand new unlocked PCM, plus all the credits to tune. I've made a few small changes so far, but I'm no pro tuner. However, truck is running so good, I'm having a hard time justifying another ~$1k spent tuning the engine/trans by someone like Greene.

I'm gonna force myself to learn how to slightly adjust shift points, and then I think it'll be fine. I would like a little better gas mileage though, mine is poor, like yours.

I really think mpg has to do with the epa and electric throttle body. I first noticed they were screwing up crap in my 14 civic si 6sp manual. It blew my mind that the epa literally makes them add fuel when you let off the gas for almost a whole second. Not really noticeable in an automatic but in that car it would rev up a few hundred rpms before dropping and throw your shift timing off.
I also want my transmission to coast better instead of downshifting immediately. I feel it should "unlock" and coast like in neutral (thinking of the early 90's GM cars) and downshift (like normal) when the brake is hit.

Interesting notation about the extra fuel when letting off gas. Just for sh1ts and giggles, a couple of times while driving, I have rotated knob to N, and then revved the engine, and WOW, the rpm's took a long time to die down. I could never figure out the reasoning on that.

RE: trans coasting - I actually prefer the stock configuration because it makes it much easier to slow down (to avoid a speeding ticket) while going downhill, just take your foot off the gas pedal...... Lots of hills in my area, and cops around here like to set up radar traps at bottom of hills, which seems unfair.

Well, lets see what pre 2019 RAM's got for city mileage... was it 18+? Nope. There is your answer.

I don't disagree about tunes though. What a disaster. I tuned a Tacoma before and after a lift and both times it was like night and day. MPG didn't increase significantly, but it was there overall and shifting was definitely better. Which is the only thing I truly care about - terrible shifting. I mean, it's really bad in the majority of vehicles I've driven now days and that includes commuters. The only thing it excludes - eCVT's which were fantastic. CVT's like in Subaru's however, were again, awful.

Same here, and because it is. Their tactics are scummy. Always have been and always will be. Granted, in my area there are only a hanful of cops so it's not that bad, but the surrounding areas closer to the bigger towns/cities, yea, it's pretty bad. And if you have out of state plates - good luck. They are going to fish harder than PBS on a sunday morning.

i have a friend with a 22 limited it has ET he get's like 15-16 on the stock tire size. i think 22's and 4wd hurt it bad.
unspring weight and carrying around the added weight of the 4wd system.
i don't leave the pavement and don't intend to so i went with 2wd on my last 3 trucks.
i have a 19 laramie with 20's and 2wd i get 23-24 hwy and 18-19 city.
