.I don't agree at all. The 5.7 is a 20 year old engine, and it's still competitive with the 5.3, and 6.2 from GM, fitting between them in terms of HP and displacement and performance. It was neck and neck with the Tundra 5.7 and Nissan's v8s, they were around 400 hp; it's also competitive with the 5.0 Coyote, though that engine is more impressive as it makes the same power now with less displacement. So that's a healthy and excellent option to keep around, 20 year old design with a pretty solid reputation (other than a few lifter failures here and there) and still running with everybody else, what exactly is the issue?
So: "Time to end", no. "Time to start work on a successor for the future", yes.
If they would have stuck the 6.4 @ 475ish hp in as an option, it would have outperformed GMs 6.2 and all the other v8's and probably the ecoboost as well.
Absolutely nothing wrong with either engine, the real mistake was not putting in the 6.4 as an optional upgrade. That would have taken the pressure off the 5.7 to perform as the top engine. Just like nobody cares that the 5.3 isn't the strongest, because the 6.2 is available, if the 6.4 was an option then nobody would care too much that the 5.7 was "only" 400 hp.
Gotta be honest, I am not looking for another truck but if Ram came out with a non-et V8 for the DT it could change my mind. I really like my truck and am not having issues with the et, but sometimes I think that is only a matter of time.As per Mopar Insider, they are expected to bring US made Hemi 5.7L back into the 1500, starting maybe as soon as 2026 models, but as a base motor behind both Hurricanes and only on lower trims, likely Laramie / Rebel and below? Also a question on how soon they could actually start production on new engines in a new location on a short time table to make them available on 2026 models?
Either way, sounds great to me!
I’m betting those lower based models will outsell the hurricanes. As per Mopar Insider, they are expected to bring US made Hemi 5.7L back into the 1500, starting maybe as soon as 2026 models, but as a base motor behind both Hurricanes and only on lower trims, likely Laramie / Rebel and below? That’s easy…I wouldnt buy an et model and would have to figure out how to disable start/stop before I would spring for a new 1500. my '19 laramie 1500 ccsb 4x4 with 5.7 and 3.92 gears was the best truck I ever owned and I would still have it if we hadnt bought a 5th wheel trailer to tow. I want simpler not more stuff to go wrong.
That would get me back into a show roomNow the rumor mill is saying the 1500 might get the 6.4L Hemi.
There were a lot of potential “new” options listed in that article. I’d like to believe that the V8 is coming back to the Ram, but at the same time I find it hard to believe that they would bring back the 5.7 and add a 6.4 to the 1500Now the rumor mill is saying the 1500 might get the 6.4L Hemi.
Especially if added Scat Pack option. That would get me back into a show room
