So yesterday I test drove a late build '21 F-150 XLT (built in July so it was almost a '22 model). Keep in mind this is XLT, so equivalent to a Bighorn on a Ram.

The one I drove had the 302A "High" package, locking diff, 3.5 EcoBoost, 10-speed, 36 gallon tank, tail gate step, and towing package.

I came away extremely impressed. Ford has come a long way. All of the options I loved about my ’22 Ram Laramie were present in this XLT F-150 minus the leather seats. Auto climate (dual zone), remote start, LED headlights, heated seat, proximity entry, huge infotainment screen, trailer brake controller, power sliding rear glass, auto high beams, active cruise control, on and on. The seats were the most comfortable truck seats I’ve sat in over the last 10 years. Just awesome seats. I fell in love with the interior pretty fast.

Payload was over 1,800 lbs. and towing was over 13,000 lbs. The 10-speed in the one I drove shifted perfectly. Zero clunking or jerking. The 3.5 engine pulls similarly to a diesel. Very little downshifting. It just goes.

If I had to buy a truck without a V8 this would be the one. At least Ford has had their tiny turbo engines long enough to get all the bugs ironed out. And the engine has a dipstick.

They are literally on the 3rd generation of the 3.5 EcoBoost. This engine is almost 14 years old.

All the chatter I’ve heard has been very positive. They might actually have the cam phaser thing figured out finally.

Wonder whether the hurricane will see a similar lifespan and revisions? Hard to see since we’re all supposed to be driving Duracells within 10 years.

I have been seriously considering the Lightning with Pro Power. The Pro models are around $52K here. The cool part is that the truck can act as a backup power source for your house in case of blackout. We'd still have an ICE truck for road trips etc. and use the Lightning for shorter trips.

How many KW can the truck provide to the house? How long will the batteries last in this case?

There is talks across the forums about the bonded neutral receptacles and gfci which causes a lot of people issues when needing to use the truck in a down power situation.

You got lucky. Lately the installation cost for a generator that size is about 8K (without the generator) in my neck of the woods. But before I derail this topic, I currently use a 15KW PTO generator for backup. The 7.2KW's are a little light for my taste, but in the case of an emergency it would be nice to avoid getting the tractor out...

It was installed back in 2017. Today, they are going for around $12K installed.

Yea I don't think anyone would by a lighting just to use for a genrator but if you are between two trucks and one has the ability to power your house and would saving having to buy a 10-15K generator then more power to you.

9.6 kw for 10 days? Not likely. Maybe if you only run a small led lamp and maybe charge your phone for 10 min a day

Who claimed for 10 days? Ford says up to 9.6kW, or “if you ration,” up to ten days. But you’re not going to get 10 days as 9.6kW continuously, nor did Ford imply you would.

Sure (mine’s a Generac), but I could see the use case for an occasional remote hunting/fishing cabin. I wouldn’t pay $10K extra for it, but it might be (for example) one of the side benefits of a future PHEV, as battery tech improves.

The resale on that Lightning will be in the toilet. They can't give these things away right now. There are better ways to spend your money IMPO.
