22" Tire Size Recommendation- 3 Options?!

I take delivery of my 23 Laramie Night Edition (non air ride) on Monday 7/31 with 22s and the GY Touring Eagles
I want to replace them ASAP with something "bigger" without lift/leveling and minimal to no rubbing.
Hours of reading threads here I can't seem to come to a conclusion on the best size.
Does anyone have the experience to share a comparison between the following 3 sizes?
275/50/22
305/45/22
33/12.5/22

I live just outside of Philadelphia and will be doing mostly highway and city driving with 2 kids. So looking for safety and longevity.
Here is what i am considering:

1. Michelin Defender LTX M/S (275/50)
2. Toyo Open Country AT III (305/45)

Any insights or experience sharing would be greatly appreciated.

I have the Michelin Defender LT/X in 305/45 R22's on mine and will be sticking with that size for the next set as well.

A lot of good info and answers to your query in this thread.
 
I’d say 275/50r22 would be a safe bet. Many run 275/60r20 without a level, which is the same height and width.

I’ve done all those sizes and also 285/50/22. Here’s the list of what I’ve had on my ‘21 and ‘22 DT. All were paired with a 22x10 wheel:

1. Defender LTX: 275/50/22- I believe the 22x10 wheels caused excessive wear due to a combination of wheel being 1/2” wider than max spec and the truck’s general handling characteristics. I think a 22x9 wheel would be a good fit with this size tire. Something important to note and may play into the wearing quickly aspect: this tire size was specifically designed for CUVs, not trucks.
2. Open Country at3 33x12.5x22- didn’t like how they balanced, the weight, or how quickly they became loud.
3. Open Country at3 285/50/22- I liked this tire, but it was still too heavy for my taste and I felt it on long or steep hills.
4. Open Country at3 305/45/22- Currently have these on the ‘22 and have 3k miles on them. I love the weight and don’t notice the weight on big hills. Acceleration on the butt dyno seems good also. This is my favorite size so far due to the aggressive look and low weight. As long as I have the truck at a 3” lift, I’ll run this size tire.

I did some research and I wanted to check my self. The 275/50 in the continental terrain contact is an XL tire. Would that still fit the bill for a truck?
 
Been eyeing that exact tire, and likely going that direction Tread measures 10in (per Tire Rack), which is wider than most 285’s. Stock Goodyears measured low 9” I can’t see it losing any MPG. Seems like a sweet spot tire, good looks, and no on-road compromises. 285/50 in a XL would be ideal though.

Using an average of 7,000lb GVW of a ram 1500 limited, the generic equation of GVW / 4 compared with the terrain contact a/t tires shows you have 929LB left for a single tire before reaching max load of the tire. That seems pretty good to me. What Continental does not list is the recommended rim widths for those tires, but if you’re using a 22 x 9, then I think it’s a safe assumption that you’ll be fine. Here’s some specs:

really appreciate the details and research. i am using the 22x9 OEM wheel. Also iI have the laramie trim with 3.21 axele and v6 engine. i should be plenty clear of the capacity.

i am having the conti terraincontact a/t 275/50/22 installed on thursday. i'll report back
 
Had the Conti 275/50/22s installed. Look great, ride great. Road noise same level as the OEMs (used deicbal meter on iPhone)
No rub so far. Defintely prefer the a/t look
I'll come back in 6 months with an update.

Looks great, can you post a few pics of tread width. Does the 275 appear to be as wide or slightly wider than the 285's that they replaced? Also tough to tell, but can you notice a difference in the profile, do they appear larger?

275's are 10mm narrower than 285's.

That's why I asked for actual pictures. Tire Rack measured these at 10in wide (tread), and many of of the 285's at 9.x. These appeared to run wide for specific size, and more equivalent to a 285 in actual width. This is just TireRack listed specs, they measured the stock goodyear's 285/45 at 9.3 and Cooper AT3 at 9.9. The 285/45 of this tire measured at 10.6in. I saw this tire on an SUV and noted how wide it was. If they do run close to how they measured, they appear to be a great XL rated option for these trucks and not have to jump to a 305/45.

I'm also interested because I'm likely going to get these in the next month or so if they measure out as I think they do. I believe it's a newish size added to the lineup, so not many out there.

Using my iPhone measure app the 285 is 1cm larger width wise. To the naked eye it’s not noticeable

Where did you get your AT3? No rub with the 305/55/22?

I have a 3/1” lift (over stock non ORG height), so no rubbing with 22x10 -18 offset wheels.
