While both GM LS-based V8s, and Hemis, seem to have issues with chewing up cams and lifters, it only affects the LS stuff with MDS.
Hemis seem to not care. From what I've read/heard, they can *all* apparently chew up cams and lifters if allowed to idle extensively.
I have almost 50K on my 2019...
I have an ancient AutoXray 6000 that will report active and pending trouble codes. I believe that anything beyond a basic code reader (think "scan tool") should do the same.
Edit - I'm not sure I've ever used it successfully on my 2019 Ram, however. But it works for every other vehicle I've...
I don't remember. I'll have to go and look. It's out in my truck, and it's raining small domestic animals here, just now.
Are you talking about the SGW bypass module? Or the Bluetooth module. There are lots of different brands out there.
I bought the ones suggested in the first thread I happened...
I tried searching, and found similar complaints, but nothing exactly like what I am seeing.
I have noticed that my audio is not coming through when I have my phone plugged in, and am using Android Auto and Waze.
Specifically, when using Waze, and it's giving me a direction, it will mute whatever...
Welcome! To the forum, and to the Rebel.
My wife just bought a 21 Sahara with a 3.54 "open" diff. My Hemi Ram has 392 gears and a posi rear axle. I've wondered how it would survive on a mild trail, compared to the Jeep(s), considering how huge it is, in comparison. Still has the Wildpeak tires...
Update: Now at 44K on the odo. Still relatively trouble free. I figured out that the iPod Touch issue was likely due to multiple bad cables. Go figure.
Android Auto is kind of a PITA, when I'm using Waze. The directions come through the radio speakers at a much lower volume than the radio...
Interesting thread.
I used to go by the oil life monitor, until I started hearing about the cam and lifter failures, as applies to our trucks.
I'm going to start changing at ~50%, regardless of miles. (In the past, the monitor has worked out to ~10,000 miles, but I drive a lot less now, and...
My thoughts exactly. If my 5.7 eats its tail, I'm planning on building - or having built - a non-MDS** 6.4. Fortunately, I don't have etorque to contend with.
**Just recognize that, according to the video I posted, MDS is not a cause of the lifter/cam issues. It's oiling.
I noticed that smell a couple of months ago, and then, nothing. Blamed it on the "replaced" long block that I was transporting home for a friend of mine.
It appears that some antifreeze had drained out of the block, and had dripped down between the bed and tailgate, onto my tailpipe/resonator...
Yeah. You'd think.
I've been reading and hearing about this, too. As posted earlier, and as suggested by one of the many YouTube troubleshooters, the Hellcat oil pump may be the fix.
The guy made a compelling argument.
He also mentioned that the MDS (or whatever it's being called this week)...
Wow!
Thanks for the info, though. I googled the part #, and Amazon coughed up a similar part for a 2500, 3500, etc. I don't know if it's compatible, or not. It doesn't look the same.

I've looked several times for those (All I have now are tow/haul and traction control.) but my "search-fu" seems to be lacking. Do you have a link?
Thanks!
To keep on-topic... I don't need garage door openers, but we have two "Mighty Mule" gate openers. I was pleased to discover that my visor...
They said that you led a rich fantasy life. :D
But yeah. I agree with you. Although the 8 speed auto is the best automatic trans I've ever driven. It's very intuitive. Whoever did the programming deserves a raise.
