@Jupiter58 Yes, that is what I did and in fact I had some left over 1/8" board that I velcroed in the bottom of the contours and including tailgate so it rolls better over the edge of the bed and tailgate. I also thought about splitting it and might at some point in future.
In the pic you see...
It was not in the picture; but I have 2 methods,
1) A rope on each side that clips to the tie down in the front and then an eye hook that is screwed into each side of the 1 x 3
2) I used L or corner bracket that attaches to the mounting plate I built to mount my 2 gallon gas tank on each...
Put on a Venturous Top on and decided wanted a bed tray. I did not want to spend over $1,000 for one so built this one using plywood, 1x3 wood, 1" wheels and some brackets. Turned out pretty good and is easy to remove and don't have to worry about a track bolted onto the bed. Each wheel supports...
Know it is a bit dated post; but thought would add ours. 23 Ram 5.7 with 3.21 pulling a Nucamp Tab 400 Teardrop (~3500 lbs loaded), trip last year to AK we averaged 12 - 14 mpg typically keeping around 65 mph.

@W Six we...
That is a Nucamp Tab 400. It has been great so far, has wet bath, separate dinette. It is very solid, dry weight is around 2900 and fully loaded it tops the scales at ~3900.
Thought would add this, finally had a chance to post, we did a AK trip recently and the truck did great. It averaged 12 - 13 mpg towing which is not bad. The truck has 23 gallon tank and on time it was a possible concern was not Alcan highway; but in Montana (jeez it can be sparse there).
