Ive been in some snowy situations in Ohio, not as bad as Michigan, but they do get some cold temps and snow. Pretty much have to have a second set of wheels and run them for 3-4 months in the cold season then switch back to regular all seasons the rest of the year.
Anyone else running dedicated winter tires? Im running Falken Winterpeak 275/60-20 on my spare set of wheels for the sub 45* season. Results have been spectacular so far.
What speed are you towing at? Makes a huge difference on mpg. Im around 10-12 towing 23’ 6k lbs camper at 60-65mph. 3.21 gearing and 33” tires. Running S&B intake, Awe exhaust suite. Doing some mods to get my towing temps down.
I ended up getting the vacuum pump in hand. Have not used it yet, as my overfill was a couple notches high after the antifreeze swap but after running it for a couple days the fluid level dropped back under max so I think the system does eventually purge the air into the overflow tank. Seems to...
You are spot on here. I flushed a gallon and a half of coolant out of the radiator (about half of the system) and refilled with the peak. Did the old school method of burping (with my custom funnel!) heat on, got up to temp, revved, opened and closed tstat multiple times, restarted multiple...
For the record what Brand 180 tstats are you guys running? I assume OEM is only available in 203. Also what tuners are you using to reprogram fan speed and the like? Thanks!
Shouldn't the shutters be wide open at that temp? I see why people remove them now. May put that on the bucket list too. From what others say that have done the tstat is it def brings down temps across the board. I get that no matter what tstat is in there the system still has a hard limit on...
I think my oem thermostat is fine, but it is designed with daily driving in mind. Works fine under normal driving. Towing heavy keeps the RPMs up and in turn heats the coolant up much faster. The coolant temp is going to be hotter at certain engine spots than others, its not exactly the same...
These temps are at 60-65 mph with around 50* ambient, so plenty of cool air flowing into the radiator. Im not sure a fan is going to add anything at those speeds, but I could be wrong there. Seems like letting the coolant flow to the radiator earlier in the heat cycle / more often would help the...
The timing will increase volume. More circulation thru radiator per hour. Obviously this works as reported by others who have done the mod. This weekend did 500 miles. 250 towing 6k, 250 unloaded. Just got back from towing 6k 125 miles. Unloaded max temp 209. Loaded up max temp 222. Was 48*...
