You should be fine just changing the oil and not adding any additives. Don't overthink it. Modern motor oils all have their own additive package. Using any other additive can negate the benefits these additive packages.Just bought a 2023 1500. I’m going to change the oil because I’m not sure of the quality that’s in there now. Should I use an oil additive to clean out the engine? If which ones.
you are 100% correct on restore. i'm a fan of the oil geek he's local to me.Assuming the truck has been properly maintained with decent quality products, that is almost certainly not necessary. That said if you think some “cleaning up” would be beneficial, I would highly recommend just using Valvoline Restore and Protect Oil. It is pretty highly regarded on other oil specific forums for its intended benefits. I don’t need it in my personal vehicles as I buy mine new and maintain them well. But my son has a used Kia Rio that came with some significant oil consumption issues. Valvoline R&P seems to be clearing up the rest of the oil consumption issues we had remaining after completing a Berryman piston soak that solved most of the consumption issue.
