I’m looking for advice on the best way to handle HVAC blend door actuator calibration.
What are my options? Is this something that’s easiest to have done at the dealer, or is there a scan tool or other equipment I can buy to perform the calibration myself? If I do end up buying a scan tool, I’d like it to be something that would also be useful for other diagnostics and maintenance tasks down the road.
Background:
I recently replaced the heater core on my 2019 Ram 1500 with dual-zone climate control (it’s out of warranty). I followed the Alldata procedure closely, but after putting everything back together, the blend doors don’t seem to be working correctly. When I select defrost mode, air seems to be directed towards the correct part of the dash, but the defrost doors closes instead of opening. Hot and cold settings work as designed.
Alldata mentioned performing a calibration after reinstalling the dash, so I’m assuming that step might resolve the HVAC issues. Given that, would taking it to the dealer be the simplest solution, or is there a practical DIY option?
Side note: For anyone else tackling a heater core replacement, I was able to leave the coolant lines connected and slightly rotate the HVAC enclosure just enough to remove and reinstall the heater core. It saved several extra steps and avoided the added hassle of refrigerant recovery, which no dealer or shop was willing to handle for me.
