UPDATE

you know, i guess somewhere along the way I got 3.92 in my head and it has been wrong for the past 4 years. thanks for bringing me back to reality.

pics attached.

side note: avg mpg is about 17 all together. mixed driving.

.........................................................................
I have 2022 Ram 1500 Hemi Etorque.
Longhorn.
4x4 3.92 rear. off road package. and bed utility.

VIN 1C6SRFKT9NN100611

How do i know if i have the "max tow" option.

other forms say if i have the square trailer hitch and 4/7 pins and brake controller = yes
some forms say those arent the only identifiers.
ive been on a few VIN look up sites, and am still stumped.

any advice?

I had that fancy knob on my 1500 and used it once just to try it. Neat idea if youve never towed or dont want to learn to do it yourself.

Note that your window sticker indicates 3.21 rear axle, not 3.92 like you say. It is possible that it DOES have a 3.92 axle and it just isn't spelled out on the window sticker... At any rate, you can still tow with your truck. You just don't have all the extra bells & whistles that come with the trailer tow group. No idea what to tell you on diff oil though.

The build sheet doesn't show 3.92, but does show e-locker under optional equipment.

Maybe the off-road pkg adds the 3.92?

I'd just run Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-140 and be done with it. Should already have the LS additive in it. If you only have 3.21 only potential downside is a little loss of MPG when not towing.

Regardless, here's what AI says for fluids (not guaranteed to be accurate):

AI Overview

For a 2022 Ram 1500 with an E-Locker rear axle, the recommended rear differential fluid is SAE 75W-90 API GL-5 or SAE 75W-140 API GL-5 depending on axle ratio and towing (3.92 gear ratios typically require 75W-140). It requires a limited-slip compatible gear oil (or additional additive).
Key Fluid Specifications & Details:
Viscosity: SAE 75W-90 GL-5 (standard) or 75W-140 GL-5 (for 3.92/heavy towing).
Additives: Limited Slip (LS) modifier is required, though many 75W-90/75W-140 GL-5 fluids already include it (often labeled GL-5 LS or similar).
Capacity: Slightly over 3 quarts (check user manual for exact capacity).
Alternative/Proper Fluid: Mopar P/N 68218655AC or equivalent (75W-90).

I was under the impression that the max tow had a cooled/heated rear axle with coolant lines running to it?

Honestly, like I said in my first post, I've never heard of any kind of "max tow" package from Ram. I've heard of Ford having that. It might be that the "trailer tow group" includes the rear cooling lines you mentioned. From what I've read the coolant lines go only to the diff cover. My 2020 Limited doesn't have this diff cover, but I also don't have the trailer tow group. There is apparently more than one diff cover...

The OP could check his diff cover and see if there are cooling lines going to it.

lol I think we need some more people to look up his window sticker and comment on what gear ratio he may or may not have. Good gosh guys, if you’re gonna spend the time to tell him he said something wrong then at least do him and the rest of this forum the favor of answering his question. Never ceases to amaze me how many people get off on telling someone they’re wrong but don’t have the ballz to provide the correct answer.

Com on man, we all just trying to to help...

How was his question not answered?

To be fair, the HD has a Max Tow.

It's a 3500 Dually with 4:10 rear, and a 30K Mopar (Curt) 5th wheel hitch included. Rear brake rotors said to be 1/4" bigger but TBH, I've not seen a lot of supporting data on that point.

That’s good to know. Thanks for the info, I I’ll keep that in mind. The OP is asking about his 1500.

There is no "max tow" package available on Ram 1500's. There is the trailer tow group. I believe that for 2022, if you have the trailer steering knob you have this package. If not you don't. The pic below is for 2025 models, but yours should be similar.

Edit: In looking at your window sticker it doesn't appear that you have the trailer tow group.
appreciate your help. have a good one.

yeah i looked up a buch of vin decoders and it only showed the base layout, not all the extras it came with (33 gal tank, 3.92 rear, e locker, etc)

3.92 was on window sticker.
