Oil Pan Replacement...DIY?

Hi folks The oil pan on my 2019 Hemi 5.7L is rusting out to a very concerning level. Anyone happen to tackle a DIY replacement? Shop told me 6 hours of labor, but that seems pretty high. I know there's a removable cross member in the way but haven't looked too closely yet. Curious if anyone has any specific knowledge or experience with this. BTW, truck is otherwise still in pretty darn good shape underneath despite the 189K miles.

Just had this done last month on my truck but luckily it was covered by my extended warranty. Mine was shot at 85k miles, the rest of the truck is in awesome shape. Must be a thin cheap pan, Ive driven some old junk in my life that was 15+ years old and have never had to change a pan before LOL.

Here is the breakdown for what is on my invoice...

4893207AB Oil Pan $343.00
53021568AE Pan Gasket $90.16
6508065AA Pan Bolts (18) $60.84
Labor 6.5 Hours $988.65

Total $1482.65

IIRC the front axle needs to be dropped to gain clearance for the pan to come out. There is that 6 hours labor.

Oh man, yeah that'd be a bit of a problem for DIY, and certainly explains the labor.

Yeah, that's about what I was quoted, but it was about $200 in parts total for aftermarket parts. I told the mechanic I'd like to buy the pan and throw a few extra coats of paint on it prior to installation. Thanks for sharing this info.

I'm a tightwad too and usually try to tackle these things myself. I'm at the age now though where I don't think I want to get into dropping axles.

How bad was your oil pan for the dealer to replace it under warranty? Mine is rusting as well. I've scraped the rust off a few times and painted it over with Rustoleum, but it's only a matter of time before it starts flaking rust again. I've heard that the pan has to be perforated for the dealer to consider replacement.

It was pretty crusty, Every oil change I would do I would think to myself man that oilpan looks bad. I don't know if it matters but I don't have ram extended warranty, I have Portfolio protection warranty and they approved the new pan/labor. I actually had the truck in for other service (also under warranty) and they decided to change the pan while it was in. I didnt even know they did it until I looked at the invoice afterwards. I was thinking of doing a extra paint over this new pan to try and keep it from getting bad. I wont own the truck in 5 years when it might possibly need another pan but maybe I can save the next owner some of the hassle lol

He is working on a gen 3 if I understood it correctly.

you are correct not a 5th gen it's a 4th

Mine was done at 57k miles under warranty. Totally rusted out and had a small leak in one of the rust spots. Not good at all.
