Rear bed step harder and harder to deploy

Is this normal? When the truck was new, it was tight to drop and raise but manageable. Now Im basically standing by the rear tire, kicking it backwards to get it to move and doing the same to raise it. Ive seen videos online where people are doing reviews of the 1500's and they are effortlessly moving this thing. Granted, I dont use it much (Im 6'6" so I dont need it) but others do.

Just blast the **** out of it with pen lube or is there more to consider?

This is how mine is now. I've not worked on it yet, but I think it needs lubbed up. The rear tire just sprays it with water when it rains. It probably is a little gunked up.

Yep, it will only get worse and worse. Clean all the crap out of the hinges and spray it up with your favorite lube. I like Fluid Film.

When washing my truck I always drop my step and pressure wash to remove dirt build up at the pivot joints. That helps a lot.

Get some mud guards to help with kicking stuff up directly onto it from the tire. When I wash my truck, by hand, I always pull it down and clean it. I do car shows and will pull it down at car shows as well. I've never lubricated mine, and the powder coating is starting to come off, but it still works great. No extra effort needed.

Bought it locally off marketplace. Seller said it was an OEM step, but with the way the costing is coming off, I'm kind of questioning that
