Hey guys. Just bought a pre-owned 2021 ram rebel 5.7 (non etorque) and already having some serious issues. Im not here to bash ram, cry or complain. I love the truck. When I actually have it and its not in the service department... I find myself taking it over my widebody charger and my chrysler 300. But, it only has 42k miles, absolutely excellent service history and is in better condition than any other truck ive seen with 40k plus miles on it. First issue... leaking oil from above the filter housing... I believe its the oil temperature sensor and the ram dealer i got it from refuses to repair it even though I noticed it a day after purchasing it. I'm not too concerned with the leak. I know it is something simple, but still annoying. I will never do business with that dealer again, literally the worst experience ive ever had with a dealership. They tried to convince me the oil leak was condensation from the ac lines hahahah. Issue two... I started it up one day and heard a tapping noise, figured it was the manifolds so I took it to the dealer and they agreed to fix it under powertrain warranty (no big deal and this dealership is awesome, ive done a lot of business with them before.) Issue three... they call me to tell me the manifolds are done and all went well, but its still ticking and they will call me back after further diagnosis. Long story short, they are replacing the cam and all lifters under powertrain warranty as well. Im in a loaner and the service center i went to is awesome to deal with... so I'm not really complaining. But, I am a little concerned with long term reliability and haven't really heard of a lot of 5th gen cam and lifter issues at such so mileage. Any input or advice from anyone? Just trying to get some feedback on what to expect and if anyone has had relatable experiences with their ram. Thanks guys!

Hate to say it but someone traded it in for a reason!! Hopefully just to get something newer.

My first RAM was a horrible experience. It was used and from a Chevy dealership. They talked me into getting the extended warranty and thankfully I did.
First issue… I never realized it until I got home. The fobik key fob buttons didn’t work to lock or unlock. This was a 2012 and it didn’t have push button. The key worked in the ignition. I called them and they basically told me too bad.
Secondly, when I bought it, I did a walk around and noticed a few blemishes, but it had 60k so I was ok with that. I asked if there’s been any accidents and the sales guy replied “no we never did any bodywork on it”. Dumb me didn’t think about this statement until later…. Weeks later the rear wheel wells on the bed started bubbling. Took it to a body shop and they said it’s a ****ty repair job and showed me under light other spots that were poorly fixed, but enough that I didn’t see it. I opted for fender flares which I hated.

Next up, the manifold tick. I wasnt familiar with hemis then. I took it back to the dealer and they agreed to fix it under the extended warranty. I get it back a few days later and as I’m driving, the engine starts smoking. I immediately pulled over and called them. They told new to drive it in.
The next day they told me the tranny line was busted but that wouldn’t be covered under warranty. 600 bucks down the drain.
Drove it home and the next day, same thing. Smoke billowing out of the engine. I didn’t even call. I took it in.
Few days later they call me and tell me when they were drilling it the manifold, they somehow drilled into or broke the head and they would cover the cost…. No sh!t. It took them about 2 months to fix it. They had to ship the truck to their Dodge dealership 100 miles away.
After all that, they told me they’d give me a free oil change. I told them to stick it.

Traded in and bought brand new.

Man.... hope I'm not in for an experience like that. I do have the mopar warranty for an additional 5 years and 75k miles. It's just a work truck for me, but that makes it even more important to be reliable. Hopefully all is good from here on.

They use to say that the trucks that had lifter/cam issues were due to long periods of idle time. I don't know if that's definitely true, but you can check the idle time of your truck to see if it's excessive for the mileage you have.
