Tradesman 5" to non nav 8.4

Hello, I just purchased a non nav 8.4 2019 uav, I currently have a tradesman 5" radio, I've looked but there is so much conflicting info online, can someone tell me what I need to do to upgrade my factory radio? Do I need a security bypass for this? Is it really just plug and play? The donor uav is from a Laramie so it has dual climate, heated and cooled seats plus heard steering wheel, I know these won't work in my tradesman but just want to know the compatibility and if it's easy enough to just install? Do I need alfaodb?

UAV isn't plug and play like a UAQ would be. You need to make changes to the BCM to enable some sales codes for the UAV to turn on after its initial start up. So yes you will need bypass, yes you need alfaobd to make programming changes, You are correct that you will not gain the features your vehicle didn't have like heated steering wheel and dual zone. You'll need the UAV module, UAV screen, UAV inner bezel, Outer bezel/panel with the vents, LVDS cable, Wiring to power and provide can to screen, bypass for programming, and alfaobd for programming.

I made the same swap last year, Tradesman, 5" to non-nav 8.4". I've grown used to Waze and my streaming music apps so I immediately got to work on this. I also did a speedometer swap to a larger OEM LCD screen version, because why not. Speedo was super cheap, like $40 from a salvage yard.

I took my time and found a non-dual zone climate control radio from a salvage yard. I have heated seat and steering wheel buttons that do nothing, everything else works as it should. Dual zone AC radio when you have single zone equipped may be a problem. I was told explicitly to make sure I swapped out with a non-dual zone radio. Hopefully it works for you.

I used the following to do my install:
19-22 DODGE RAM UCONNECT 5 RADIO INTEGRATION WIRING HARNESS MAIN, MEDIA HUB, SXM
OBDLink EX FORScan OBD Adapter
12+8 Adapter Cable for Chrysler FCA 12 8 Gateway Security Bypass Cable for Autel Maxisys Universal Connector for Dodge Ram Jeep

The adapters and tools cost a little over $200 all told, even with the cost of the radio you're saving a ton of money sourcing your own radio, harnesses and the tools required.
 
Funny. I have an 8.4 with nav, module and complete screen with the bezel, I’d sell cheaper than what you could get the non nav for. PM me id interested. I have a post in the buy/sell forum.
