1500 vs. 2500 (any maker) road manners

We are looking at a bigger center console fishing boat, probably close to 8,700 lbs with fuel and trailer, I am definitely looking at a F250 XL 7.3L gasser, surprisingly good looking and equipped for a base model at just $60,000 MSRP. Honestly a bargain for what your get. The only issue is the outside looks good, but the inside looks low rent with fabric and a small screen, but I'm sure the aftermarket can fix that.

I do plan on keeping the RAM and shipping to my family's home in the Philippines.
What kind of CC are looking at? I had my boat bottom painted on Shelter Island, they did a great job. Why not get a Ram 2500 6.4 gasser? Part of the reason I like Ram so much is because the interior is so nice. I was a Toyota guy for a long time but do not miss them at all since I've had my Ram.

60 for a base f250 but 61 for a Laramie 2500 gasser. RAM for the win
bro in my house the forbidden 4 letter F word is FORD.

I mean, I could frame a house using a ball peen hammer. But it’s going to suck.

Otherwise I agree with the theory that properly setup and driven there is no reason a 1500 can’t tow right up to its rated limit.

And engine power is never the limiting factor.

But if I have to do it often, may as well get a nail gun, er, HD truck and save myself a lot of stress and frustration.

I'm looking at new Grady White or slightly used Boston Whaler in the 25ft-27ft size with twin outboards. Cool, which company was that at shelter island, wonder if they do PWCs as well? Reason for switching below....

That's interesting, Is that Laramie a 4x4 at that price? Essentially all base crewcab F250 XLs are 4x4 even starting at 54K, with the STX appearance package and 7.3 it pushes up to 60K. I like the way the F250 looks over the RAM and I don't like the RAM dealership service network, just afraid to start fresh with them on another new vehicle.

I also get bored every few years, I occasional switch brands to switch things up, have historically been a "Ford" guy and like their local dealership network. But intend to still have my Rebel which I adore.

I don't think it is hammer framed vs nail gun. It is more portable compressor for 1 or 2 framers vs hauling out the trailerable compressor for crew of 6 production framers.

My whole point is to let some people know that their 1500 is perfectly capable of towing if they are within its rated limits. I would actually go a little below rated limits so you can have a buffer. I see a lot of posts where people ask about towing with their 1500 and the immediate response is to get a 3/4 or 1 ton with a diesel regardless of what they are actually towing.

I have towed my setup with a 3/4 ton diesel and it wasn't a huge difference for me except that I could do 75 mph going up a grade without breaking a sweat and fuel economy was better than the 8.1 mpg with the 5.7 gas.

I am not against diesels and HD trucks, they are awesome, I am just trying be a counterpoint for people who might not need one or don't really want to get one.

I think it was Shelter Island Marina. My slip neighbor has a beautiful brand new whaler with triple outboards. It's his first boat and he doesn't fish or even like to eat fish. lol. I would think a new GW over a whaler, is there a wait to get the new Grady?

You make a really good point about the dealer network. I was nervous about Ram dealership servicing dept as I always had good luck with Toyota. My fears were confirmed when I went to my local dealership for quite a few issues immediately after truck was purchased and boy did I get the run around from a professional BS'er that was the service writer. Found another Ram dealership not that much further away that is family owned and have been getting the best service.

Awesome, I'll check them out. Lots of guys like that who own fishing boats and don't really fish, the CC is a good platform for most things. Boston Whalers I think they are a little overpriced for sure, that's why I would consider a used one. Not really a wait list on Grady Whites, I think they have stuff in stock nationally depending on what model you want if you aren't requesting a specific built out, especially in current market.

I probably be open to low hour and up to 2-3 year old boats as well, the depreciation is really strong during the initial few years on boats, but they are a pain once you get too old and have to deal with issues out of warranty.
