So you're basically arguing hearsay. Dozens of writers say that Stellantis said...Personally I have no idea which is more expensive to produce, nor do I really care. If you're including the cost of carbon credits I have no doubt the Hemi is more expensive. Honestly, it's a moot point. The Hemi is gone, probably for the long term if not for good. Who cares which engine is more expensive? We have the choice of a twin turbo inline six or go with another manufacturer, unless you step up to an HD truck to get the 6.4.
Step up in engine only.
The HDs seem to still have way less options\features then then 1500s.
No HUD, Air suspension, etc.

I'm not sure how Ram can put out new motors that have worse MPGs, I thought there were EPA standards they had to meet, the reason I heard they keep going to thinner and thinner oils. Unless by putting out hybrids and EVs they can offset the hurricane mileage
I am getting about 1.5 mpg better than my Hemi did. Smoother, more power, doesn't like to accelerate slowly (small surging) and 300 times easier to change oil lol.

Power is ok I would take some MPG
I am looking at a Tungsten or Limited to replace my 2019 Longhorn. I just started looking, but it appears the SST HO is worse mpg than my Hemi. The standard SST appears to be much more powerful than my Hemi and return better mpg. I think that is the better engine choice for me, but I'm not willing to drop to a lower trip level to get it. And yes, I understand it is much faster, but I have other sports cars and don't drag race much with the truck.

Just for reference, I am getting better mileage with my Tungsten HO than both my 19' Limited hemi non-etorque and my 24' Limited hemi etorque.

Getting better mileage towing with the SST HO than either hemi as well. Actually, getting better towing mileage than the 3.5 eco boost I had as well.

There's more to power and acceleration than just the peak numbers. That's why even the SO blows the 5.7l out of the water on any acceleration test, despite only having 30hp/50tq more peak numbers.
Yeah, I’d define the extra power I’d like differently. I’d want more torque from idle to 3k rpms (normal daily driving and towing range).

I’d take the extra MPG too. My 5.7 with 3.21s is plenty fast once it spun up and making power. That said, it’s plenty adequate and enjoyable at lower rpm as is.

So if I had to pick one I’d leave it as is and add extra MPG.

I have never bought a Truck for MPG at all, so I would take the HP and torque over the MPG. I bought a Hell cat and I never once thought about MPG!! The Chrysler 300s My wife has runs very well with the 5.7 Hemi in it does about 20 to 21 MPG most of the time if she drives it......My Hell cat gets 18 MPG if I keep my foot out of it!

I hear you. My Scat Pack gets better mpg than my Ram, but I would still take increased TQ in the Ram over mpg. If I was concerned about fuel economy in a truck I would have bought a v6 Tradesman

The ideal combinations would be for Ram to offer the 5.7, I-6 in two choices with another choice of a Ram Sport with 6.4 Scat Pack motor turbocharged. It would be a combination of the very best driving truck out there in my opinion. The Ram every time I have bought the last 5 or 6 Rams is always compared to a Ford and Chevy same trim before I bought my Rams. The Ford has many features over the Chevy, but none has what all the Ram has, nor does the Ford or Chevy drive as well. I think that in effect would put Ram the number one selling truck, as it was before Ford took it over. Just my opinion.

Yes, better emissions with the SST. That's the main benefit of direct injection. Better power and cleaner emissions. At least for a time, until carbon deposits start to affect performance and fuel economy.
Great point made. I personally say running high grade fuel in it will help quite a bit for carbon build up, and running carbon cleaning additive every so often with oil changes would also help to slow carbon buildup down quite a bit.

100% agree

Now I do agree that they are paying less per engine as it relates to fines so perhaps it's a net savings per engine sold. As for production itself, I don't believe the Hurricane would cost less to manufacturer than a Hemi considering the hardware employed to make it powerful and clean (plasma arc cylinder liners, dual overhead cams with individual cam phasers, aluminum block, high pressure DI hardware, dual water cooled exhaust manifolds and for the H/O- forged pistons, diamond coated pins, oil cooling jets, dual DI fuel pumps, dual turbo cooling circuits) and you begin to see all the features that it has over the Hemi. On top of that, it probably has a really robust set of knock sensors to control cylinder performance since DI allows higher compression ratios in forced induced engines. The Hemi is a relatively simple design that's been around forever. They've added a cam phaser for VVT and the cylinder deactivation hardware but outside of that, it's a really old school design, especially compared to what GM has done with their small block, which likely costs more to produce.
Never realized the HO had that much engineering to it compared to the old school 5.7 .

And you know my Hellcat hits 22 to 23 MPG on open interstate with my foot out of it, and average MPG is right around 18 all the time to 20.

Yes, just that from a hard roll on the open 4 lane. You won't pull away from me from a 40 to 60 Mph kick.... You will get gasified too as you run in to many pulling well over 1000HP....good old-fashioned GAS it don't take much at all to get any hellcats over 1000hp.
