Cracked Manifold?

replaced both of mine, OEM is crap, go with BD Diesel. excellent workmanship, Do the work yourself, not hard at all. but uh, since Trump took over, good luck getting that product out of Canada

It's not likely that you can tell the difference between the sound of a broken exhaust stud or a cracked manifold. From my time in 4th and 5th gen forums I will say that it's more common to see broken studs on 4th gens and it's more common to see cracked manifolds on 5th gens. But those two issues are not mutually exclusive, meaning you could have either one happen on either generation. The only way to tell for sure is to start taking it apart until you can verify which one it is.
Yes and exhaust leak is an exhaust leak. I am not concerned which one just that I have a leaked near the head. I'll look into some options I guess!

Facing the same problem / broken bolt(s) warped manifold. So I'm trying to decide if it's best to:
(1) Replace with updated OEM (the replacement manifold kit from RAM/MOPAR has updated bolts)
(2) Replace with a BD manifold
(3) Worth replacing with shorty headers link 1, link 2

I'm ballparking the OEM kit vs BD kit at about the same $. Extra $ to get headers of either type. I understand the conceptual benefit of headers but I'm not sure how much benefit I can get from improved flow etc without replacing the rest of the stock exhaust, and / or marrying the out-flow with increase air intake and tuning....I'm not ready/willing to go that far at this time.

Thoughts and feedback welcome.

IIRC from my 4th gen days AFE shorties were the only ones that didn’t eventually crack like the other shorty options but if I’m paying spending that much I might be even more tempted to spend a bit more and just go longtubes and have performance gains..

Thats why BD manifold are priced right. I bit more then the oem option yet wont have the oem manifold issues.. at the same time won’t do anything for increase performance. Just depends on what you really want.

Appreciate that input / perspective. I'd love to get a little performance in the form of fuel economy, but I really don't care about additional HP performance. Everyone's wants and needs vary but the truck drives well imo. I'm hesitant to go with long headers because I really don't care to increase my exhaust noise (cabin noise). I've also considered a K&N air intake...they DO print dyno results but it's HP and torque vs MPGs and noise which are my focus areas. Seems like BD might be my best bet.
