Wasn’t sure where to put this question so I’m asking it here in “general”.

Two times since I’ve owned my truck (couple months now) I’ve had a situation where my fob doesn’t work properly. I will have to press the lock multiple times to get my truck to lock, and multiple times to get it to unlock. When this happens the remote start won’t work at all. I’ll get in and drive around and next time my fob works perfectly as it should. Does anyone have an explanation for this?

I have a couple theories. First of which is perhaps even though my truck is in park, some how the computer isn’t receiving the signal that it’s completely in park?

2nd theory is that there is some sort of interference with my fob signal from some other radio waves nearby or something? Idk.

Truck is brand new so I wouldn’t think my battery is bad in my fob. Perhaps my fob is faulty.

Anyone else experience this? I’ve tried searching on here but can’t find a previous thread.

I’ve noticed this truck has a few interesting quarks. A couple times now when I’ve tried to start my truck everything will engage except the starter. I have to take my foot off the pedal, then re depress the brake pedal and it will start just fine.

I sure miss the days of a turn key ignition. Less computer crap to go wrong.

Another update. Fob still not working correctly. Now for the first time my truck says no fob detected in truck. Had to press the unlock rapidly multiple times and then my truck detected it and I was able to start it. I was over an hour from home. Luckily it started. I called my dealer and they advised me to try changing the battery. I’m going to try that and see if it resolves the issue.

My truck does the same thing. Both fobs are hit and miss when they work or not. I changed the battery and it didn't make a difference. Just hit a 1000 miles and hoping it keeps working til I take it in for an oil change.

I drove home from an hour away, stopped and bought new batteries while I kept the truck running. Got home and now the damn thing works just like it should. Now I’m not sure what to do. Guess I’ll keep driving it for a while and see if it happens again. This sucks though. I bought a new truck for reliability, now I don’t trust it.

I guess I'll try batteries again, fingers crossed. It's super frustrating, but it has always worked eventually.

I’m not sure this is true or not, I have to do some more research, but I read online that if your fob is not being detected by your truck, you can physically touch the fob to the starter button and it will connect. Seems like it’s not true, but I’m gonna keep digging into that idea.

There is an RFID tag (maybe they changed to NFC?) in the FOB that is used to allow the truck to start when the FOB battery is dead.

It must be in very close proximity to/touching the starter button to work.

I expect with the new trucks that have gone to a digital keycard option and/or phone app key option, they'd be NFC.

Truth.

Update: just did it again, so I definitely have something going on ugh.
are you at home when this happens?
