Pretty sure on the passenger side is cracked, maybe both (passenger is the isn't, drivers is the second). Thought I would run it buy you guys and get your opinion before I go to the dealer. Does seem to quiet down after it warms up. Could be a broken stud also because it's a 05/2019 build.

Lost a stud on the passenger side, ordered a manifold kit and replaced it.
Might have cost around 70 or 80 bucks.
Upload to you-tube and post a link to it.
 
Yea the previous owner bought a 3rd party warranty from the dealer. So I am going to let them handle it prolly instead on messing with it. Also it's 15 degrees here in MI!

I'll try the YouTube and upload method, or compress the video.
 
I will say I was thinking the warranty would be all but worthless. However, I have had 2 front parking sensors, pigtail, and active grill shutters with harness all replaced in the last 2 months since I purchased late November. No out of pocket. Hopefully the manifold and/or studs are covered.

I may try to sneak in a set of shorty headers if the dealer will let me. Anyone put on shorty headers? If so do they have a breaking problem or sealing? I know in the SBC days we would cut the flange so they could flex somewhat independent!
 
i thought it's covered under emissions up to 80k mi
 
Not sure when I looked the FCA "major emissions equipment" the exhaust manifold wasn't covered. I would agree though if you are in some way bypassing the CAT it should be!

I have a set of the updated OEM manifolds, heat shields and MLS gaskets I'll sell if someone wants them.
 
Anyone watch the video and think it sounds like cracked manifold? To be clear not expecting internet mechanics just asking if it sounds like anyone who has had it happen
 
Shorty headers = 15x the cost of OEM with 90% chance of cracking and no perceivable performance benefit.
Long tube headers = 30x the cost, plus added cost of a tune,, modify or replace existing exhaust and other corresponding mods but you'd get actual performance gains if you were so inclined to go down that path.

I replaced my passenger side with an updated OEM version, ($65 and 2hrs labor) and haven't had any further issue in almost 45k miles. OEM's are cheap and easy to swap but long backorders can make them harder to get at times. Faster to order yourself as dealers seem to be limited in how many they can aquire in a time frame.
I still have the driver's side OEM on the shelf and would likely spend another $65 for OEM if the passenger side does eventually crack again.

The BD's seem to be the best overall option currently on the market. Not as cheap as OEM but not expensive as shorty headers either. Availability and build quality seems to be great and I haven't seen any negative reports on them yet. So, if the goal was to "one and done" this subject, the BD's would be my top choice.

Yup, sounds like my truck did. The manifold was fine how ever.
 
Thanks for the explanation, I was just thinking if there was any benefit to headers. Without any reliability or performance it's kind of pointless. Not too worried about timing as it's not causing issues at the moment. I have a warranty that covers it so if I can spend no money or my labor then I will go thar route haha

No stranger to working on vehicles but if the warranty is there ya know. Have plenty of my labor to finish the LS swap on my 72 C10!
 
There are several threads on the topic but my comments were a decent summary of them.

The few times I did ask a dealer to look at my truck, they said to leave the truck for 3-5 days for them to "diagnose" the issues.
That's a no bueno for me so 2 hrs and $65 later, I resolved the problem myself.
Warranty is great but not always the most convenient solution.

Agreed, a broken stud would likely take me more than 2 hours. The dealer is not convenient, I agree. More convenient than the 20 degree Michigan weather for 2+hours in a driveway! Garage is filled with my C10 in pieces, haha!
 
Had my manifolds replaced under warranty, just today.
2021 with 80,000 kms.
You can see the crack and whole in it.

It's not likely that you can tell the difference between the sound of a broken exhaust stud or a cracked manifold. From my time in 4th and 5th gen forums I will say that it's more common to see broken studs on 4th gens and it's more common to see cracked manifolds on 5th gens. But those two issues are not mutually exclusive, meaning you could have either one happen on either generation. The only way to tell for sure is to start taking it apart until you can verify which one it is.
