I took my 2020 RAM 1500 Bighorn 4WD [5.7 Hemi V8] in for a tune up. It has just over 100k miles on it. The service manager asked if I heard a ticking upon start up. I didn't but he went on to tell me that I need to have both exhaust manifolds replaced. I'll take it for a second opinion but any experience with that? How is that actually diagnosed? Thanks!

Do a search and you will find a lot of posts on it. This is a common issue that should be a recall.

The exhaust tick is normal on the hemi. Most every 5.7 has this issue at some point, especially by 100k. Some of the manifold bolts to break over time, and the manifolds themselves may crack too. If you don’t notice it, then don’t worry about it. Once they heat up, they seal up again and you’re fine. I’d fix it once you notice the noise a lot or if you smell exhaust after driving it. At 100k miles, best of luck getting anyone to fix/replace them for free.

My passenger side broke a stud. They will make a ticking sound when cold.

All Hemi’s gonna have some type of tick but that ticks volume is greatly increased once your manifolds/bolts or broken or cracked.

They’re covered under the powertrain warranty to 60k past that your own your own. Thats the best solution you’re going to get. It’s not just a Hemi thing some LS have this issue as well aluminum heads plus cast iron manifolds will heat those manifolds up quickly and cause the cracking/warping etc.

I had my exhaust manifold bolts break twice while still under my new vehicle 60,000-mile powertrain warranty. I can't image your manifolds themselves being bad. Usually, the bolts just break off before the whole manifold can be damaged. It is incredibly common, and not very hard or expensive to fix. If you do find it is your manifold bolts, which I'm sure it is, buy a pack of stainless-steel ARP studs and have those put on in lieu of the OEM junk and you' never have to worry about it again. The ARP stud kit is like $79 on Amazon or Ebay.

Well, the cheesy *** OEM crappy molded exhaust manifolds are JUNK! both of mine were cracked @80k. Replaced both myself with the BD diesel manis. both for $427.00, special holiday price and .mil discount. Now with Trumps dumbass tariffs, surely it will dbl in price or not even ship. none the less, ticks, leaks solved. truck runs better, now Im gonna gt rid of it, going back to Superduty.

so you complain about tarifs and not being able to get your parts and about how its the presidents fault but yet you say you already have the parts and the trucks fixed.. you just like to whine about him and dodge trucks? LOL

Common problem with the exhaust manifolds cracking OP. If you replace with OEM, they will crack again. I replaced with headers.

I would consider the BD Diesel exhaust manifolds to replace the OEM manifolds.
