Hi all. Just got my 2025 rebel and drove 250 miles on the freeway. Best I got was 15mpg. 72 to 82 mph. Is this it or will it get better? Also got a service tpm sensor code. That went away.

I just drove home in my new bighorn. Dash said 22.1 mpg. Hand calculated was 21.4 mpg. 470 miles of mostly interstate travel. SST engine

I own a 2021 Rebel, and that's about the same mileage I get running 87 octane. I wouldn't expect anything better from a Rebel. Its lifted, has bigger tires, is 4x4, it's not a recipe for fuel efficiency.

Routinely around 18mpg, as advertised.

My round trip I take about once of month of 600 miles I usually average around 20-21mpg hand calculated. I have a LoneStar with 3.92's. If I cruise below 75mph my instant reads around 20-25mpg. Anything above 75 and it drops down around to 17-21mpg.

I am around 4500 miles on my 2025 now.
Same driver, driving habits, city & HWY routes.
Hand calc. averages. BTW my trip computer is within 1 to 2 MPG (optimistic)
Only use 91-octane

Fuel economy of my 2019 with Hemi (5.7 Hemi, 3.92 Gears)
  • Avg city: 16MPG
  • Avg HWY: 19MPG
  • Avg speed: 75MPH
  • Avg. city/HWY: 18MPG
  • Avg towing (7000lb trailer) AZ to destination in UT: 12MPG
Fuel economy with the 2025 Hurricane engine (SSO. 3.92 gears) to date:
  • Avg. city: 17 MPG
  • Avg. HWY: 22 MPG
  • Avg. speed: 75MPH
  • Avg. City/HWY: 20 MPG
  • Avg towing: TBD –

The Rebel, unless a diesel, is always going to suck in comparison to the other trims when it comes to mpg.

With standard 33" A/Ts, 1" lift, no active radiator grills (not sure about 25' model year), and 3.92 axle, you will always be 20% - 30% lower than most other trims.

The E rated tires that come on the Rebels weigh 17 pounds per tire more then the standard 20" or 22" tire.

I have a 25. Rebel. About 1500 miles and it’s getting extremely bad. Gas mileage. With easy driving. I’m getting 10-13 mpg. And when I towed an aluminum trailer on the highway at about 70 mph. Trailer weighs 1100lbs. I got 9 mpg. What do you guys think. There has to be something wrong

Update at 5K

Around city - purely city street stop and go driving: 16MPG
Mixed city / HWY - flat roads: 18MPG
Mostly HWY at 75 MPH average: 20 MPG

City MPG is not impressive - it is only 1 MPG more than my Hemi.

I'm about the same for city and mixed driving. HWY I can get around 21-22mpgs. Now with the 22's I'm seeing a bit of a decrease though. I've always wanted them so I'm ok with them.

I will add my small sample size comparison. I just drove 4-1/2 hours to pick up a new Tungsten, so same miles out and back, same road. All the driving below was between 75-85 except an occasional work zone. Total miles, 320.

2024 Limited Hemi 5.7 eTorque, 3.92 - 16.5 mpg (13,000 on the truck)

2025 Tungsten SST HO, 3.92 - 15.8 mpg (340 on the truck)

Hope this new one gains a bit of MPG as it breaks in and gets some miles on it.....

That definitely seems low vs EPA miles. Hopefully it does break in a bit and start performing better.

Update from my post #12.

Drove the truck today for 200 miles at 72 mph and got 20.6! Much better than the 15.6 I got on the way home from the dealer, AND it was 40* today and we possibly could be on winter fuel here in MN?

Did some towing this afternoon as well. 20' enclosed trailer, 8' wide and 9' tall, empty trailer so about 2,500 lbs.

At 64 mph I got 9.5 mpg.

24' Limited Hemi eTorque with the same trailer, same road, same mph, about the same 9.5 mpg, maybe a hair better.

21' Ecoboost 3.5 with the same trailer same road same mph, BEST I ever got was 8.5, so there's a positive on that! Lol

After 4,800 miles the overall hand calculated mileage is 17.68 mpg highest 18.1 mpg lowest 15.9 mpg.

I have the same problem and they did an electronic check on the system and couldn't find anything. I did some research and according to what I found online, the MASS AIR SENSOR AND THE SPEED SENSOR COMBINED GIVE US THE MPG. Found a video where the mechanic said that the sensor may be lying to the ECM messing up the mileage. I checked the engine, and it looks like they didn't even check the sensor except through the OBD2 system. The sensor isn't expensive and may be defective.

Just watched a video of a tradesman being driven with the same rearend and he was doing 23 mpg. The larger tires and suspension doesn't erase 5 MPG. It's the damn computer.

check my comment below on the air sensor. The dealership tested all the electronic modules and found nothing. I didn't see anything on the report about sensors.

It very well could. Though not sure about all your variables to compare someone else vehicle on a video. Things like how hilly your roads are, and your driving technique, weather, elevation, etc. I average 13 mpg, but if I drove like a Grandma with a throttle phobia, I could potentially get 17 mpg.

Right off the bat, going to 33" from stock 29 or 30s always have historically lost me 3-4 mpg. Then, at least with pre-facelift Rebels, the lack of active grill shutters. You can easily loose 5 mpg with the Rebel trim when you take everything into account. What computer are you talking about, you think there is a tune difference between trims, even on the Hurricane?

I'm not saying you don't have a potential mechanical problem, but you can scour all the threads of Rebel owners complaining about MPG since 2018 and all of them usually leads to the same loss in mpg vs non-Rebel trims. The Rebel 12-13 mpg vs Everyone else 17-18 mpg is pretty common. With the mpg differences of the Hemi and Hurricane being almost identical, it's down to the trim itself.

I've already seen other Hurricane Rebel owners mentioning not getting the mpg promised on the EPA sticker, as more and more owners start posting on this forum, we'll see how it shakes out. You also may want to keep an eye on Fuelly, Hurricane owners are starting to log their data there now.
