The only way to know actual mileage, is to hand calculate, over multiple tank fulls. Even hand calculating each tank isn't totally accurate, because each fill isn't exactly the same.

That's why the engineers use fuel flow rate.

On a recent trip I filled up and went 84 miles at 70 mph got to my destination and filled up again 3.3 gal truck computer says I was doing 23.2 avg and was reset at beginning of trip with the 3.3 gal at 84 miles is 25 mpg I have the 22 Quad with 3.21 and 5.7 Hemi so as far as hand calc Id say thats pretty good
Sounds about right.
With 3.21 gears you should be able to do 23 easily on the highway at faster speeds than my 3.92's. I always have the windows up for best aerodynamic performance, and cruise set around 68 for my 3.92 gears. With 3.21 you can probably cruise around 78 (?) and still be under 2,000 rpm? Aerodynamic drag isn't quite linear, but it's close so going faster means proportionately a little more resistance, not logarithmically a lot more. The difference between 68 and 78 isn't a lot so as long as you keep it under 2k rpm you should get decent mileage.

In most of Canada and around here max speed limit on most freeways is 62 mph. New Brunswick and the Coquihalla in BC have 68 and 74 limits respectively but they're limited in scope. Most open highways are 50 mph. Anecdotal info - in Canada most people don't use the term freeway (like the 401 in Ontario), they're generally all referred to as highways.

but according to the actual gas I used its more like 25mpg how is that possible at 70 mph all hwy btw no city streets less than 1 mile

I recently started using Fuelly to track my mileage. 80% of my miles are interstate driving at 80-82 mph turning 1900 rpm with 3.21’s on mostly flat terrain.

My dash mpg readout is consistently 1 to 1.5 mpg higher than the calculated mpg on Fuelly. Hand calculated is exactly the same. Don’t believe what the dash readout tells you. Ram is trying to make you feel like your doing much better than you actually are.

Last time I hand calculated it was really close to the dash. I can’t remember now as I don’t care about the fuel mileage anymore.

Hand calculating has some variables. Such as in the USA it's gallons which are 3.8x larger than CDN liters which adds a bit more variance in your numbers - the more decimal points or smaller values you have, the more accurate the calculations. I wouldn't worry about it unless the numbers are way off like 2-3 mpg or so. If I was getting 28 mpg, I'd be wondering what's going on, just as much if I was getting 15 mpg.

Mine is pretty close to hand calculated. All I know is I've done the math to confirm it's right, and my truck is getting slightly better than RAM/EPA estimates so I'm happy.

As I've said before, driving style has a large impact. I know someone with a 2019 and he gets horrible mileage. But he has a lead foot, bald rear tires, and drives well over the speed limit where the rpm's are above 2k. Yet he still loves his RAM and uses it every day. So when I was researching and shopping for a new truck, I did side by side comparisons and found the RAM is not the gas guzzler some claim. I know someone with a 2021 Ford F-150 with the Eco-Boost engine and he gets the same crappy mileage as my friend's RAM and says Fords are gas guzzlers. And again he loves his truck too. Opinions vary.

Well, a 40 mile trip netting 23.5 mpg might make you feel warm and fuzzy, but realistically, just like you said, actual mpg is average over multiple tanks, and hundreds of miles, not just a 40 mile trip, but hey, it looked good in that 40 mile trip!

I got 38.5 on this trip. Most of it was downhill.😆

I guess you and some of the others here don't get the point of "highway" mileage. The EPA and RAM state city, highway, and combined mileage as separate ratings.

I did a separate highway run to prove a point - I can get 23 on the highway with 3.92's. This is not an average rating. The proof is right there. It was actually better than their ratings and better than I expected from the truck. I don't feel warm and fuzzy about it - it's a fact, not a fuzzy feeling. Although I like warm and fuzzy feelings from time to time, especially with whisky. LOL

What I get in the city or combined is not 23 and that's not what I'm talking about here. But I expected that and I'm ok with that too. But when people say I can't get 23 on the highway, I don't really care, whatever. I just move on and have another whisky...and enjoy my 23+ mpg on the highway...not at the same time though... LOL

Combined mileage is not the same as average mileage.
Not getting 23 mpg on a regular highway without cheating the numbers.

My Silverado got 30 mpg over a 50-75 mile stretch on an very particular highway going 1 direction. Would I say it got 30 MPG highway? No way. It got between 19-24 on average, NOT COMBINED.

I'm starting to wonder if you have a v6 Pentastar engine and just don't realize it.

Frankly, the posts "I got 30MPG on a 40 mile trip" (example) is kind of getting old, or those screen shots showing "35 instant mpg", or even a "35mpg average".

Drive your truck about 300 miles, THEN post your EVIC showing the miles driven, time, and the MPG over that time period, and THEN, and only then, will you have a realistic overview of your "average MPG". I guarantee its not going to be anywhere near what you brag about.
