Hi,
After many savings, I managed to buy my 2021 Dodge Ram 1500 Lone Star 5.7 truck.
After a week of using it, I was surprised when leaving the store, the catalytic converters were stolen, and no one was held responsible. To make matters worse, my insurance doesn't cover any of it.
I had to install two pipes in place of the catalytic converters, but now I have the 'Check Engine' light on.
For now, I don't have the cash to consider installing the catalytic converters.
How can I turn off the check engine light?
Is there any bypass?
Please, if anyone can make a recommendation, I would greatly appreciate it.

Probably gonna need a tuner in the pcm which won’t be exactly cheap. Insurance should cover it but I also dk who or what coverage you have.

Did you not have full coverage insurance on the truck? If so, what type of crappy insurance company are you using that wouldn't cover cat theft?

Even comprehensive insurance should cover theft. You can clear the codes, but they will return, until it's fixed.

You need to out your insurance company so we know who to avoid.

only liability truck insurance.
Economically, I'm going through a tough stage, as I mentioned, I used all my funds to buy this truck and now this happens.

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but you probably should have held off buying it, until you could afford insurance. You never know when somebody hits you, and totals your truck. I know someone who was just in an accident, that the uninsured driver had a heart attack, went into oncoming traffic, and luckily only sideswiped one vehicle, before spinning and rolling, DOA. If that person hit you, you are out of luck. I would live without a lot, before not having car insurance on any vehicle more than a couple thousand max.

Would uninsured motorist cover this, even if no collision?

If I were you I’d just leave the straight pipes in place with the CEL for now if moneys tight. Also get someone to read the codes for you. I’ve used an O2 sensor “fooling” device when I deleted my cat converters in the past. Might work on ram. Maybe someone knows.

Uninsured motorist is just another government slush fund they make you pay. It doesn't cover anything. I've never heard of those light eliminators, but sounds like that might help him.

Just leave the light on until you can afford to replace the cats. Unless you live in a free state and don't have emissions inspection. In that case tuning would be the ticket. Still expensive if you are tight on funds.

Someone said it best. Should have went the old school $500 pickup until times were better. All your savings on a vehicle is not wise. It is just a vehicle. There are more things in life

Meanwhile you can easily use the Homer Simpson universal fix.simpson-homer-simpson.gif

Not all states do uninsured motorists coverages and I've actually used it and received a refund on my deductible because of it.
