Bad fuel mileage 5.7 hemi

Matches me to a tee. I work from home, lots of my driving is around town, which is evident at my 11-13 mpg range average. But I may only fill-up once a month.

I have dropped $100/week during the late spring to early fall months each year. Don't want to add up what I spend on gas a year, but that's also canuck currency

I towed my 3000lb trailer with a 1500lb load about 150 miles the other day to pick up a new toy and averaged around 11mpg.

Dang i wish i can get 18-19mpg w/ 3.92 and the 5.7 etorque LOL I get like 13-15 atm in the winter and thats with 50 / 50 highway\local. Prob has stock tires and wheels correct?

I have only hade mine for 3 weeks. Last fill up was with non-ethanol gas and the avg on the truck went from 14 to 15.6. That was just driving around town.

I've had mine about a month? maybe 2? Last filled up with non-ethanol and I am literally astonished at the difference. Truck is quieter (you can't even hear it accelerate if cruise is on going up small hills now), stays in eco longer, and my mpgs are up. The previous two tanks were 14.2 and 14.6, this tank is 17.4. I drive the same route to and from work every day.

Were you going down hill the whole time? I almost never see MDS kick in at 70 unless im going down a bridge.

negative straight highway learned how to control my foot and get that eco light turned on. but if I'm doing 85 then its more like 17-18

My 02 with the 4.7l got better mileage than both my Hemis.

Both the Hemis had .392's and were Limited’s so quite heavy compared to the 02, (with 355's IIRC).

The information is only really useful if you also say what rear end you have. 3.92 vs 3.21 makes a big difference at highway speeds.

That is seriously impressive. I had a '19 Hemi with a 3.92 and my average over 72K miles was 14.1 MPG.

Mine was all hand calculated.

I should have made that point before. Besides what rear end you have, it's also important to note whether it is hand calculated or based on what the dashboard computer says.

In tracking my '19 and now my '21 for a combined total of 95K miles, I have found that the dash computer is almost always off. Further, it's almost always high.

In recent fill-ups, I had:

508 miles on tank. Computer said 25.0 MPG. Hand calculation said 22.9.

349 miles on tank. Computer said 26.8 MPG. Hand calculation said 24.1.

506 miles on tank. Computer said 22.6 MPG. Hand calculation said 20.2.

Those are somewhat cherry-picked, out of my last 7 fill-ups, but all but one were higher than what hand calculation said. My '21 is an EcoDiesel, which is how I get that kind of mileage.

It was pretty much the same on my '19 with a Hemi. Lower mileage, but the computer was pretty much always high. Often, by a fair bit.

To be clear, I reset both my B tripmeter and my Fuel Economy gauge every time I fill up. The Trip B and the Fuel Economy gauge always read the same and (obviously) are just based on my driving since the last fill-up - just like my hand calculated #s.

If the #s you reported are from the dash computer, I'm not too surprised. If those are hand calculated, with a 3.92 rear end, then that is really impressive.

Hand calculated, computer showed more so I don't follow that, and I always reset everything

Anyone else getting less than 14mpg? My 4th gen got way better economy. I know it’s a truck and I don’t expect amazing economy, but i do expect to get what I got out of my 4th gen which was 16-17, and also does anyone have a vibration coming from the drivetrain when In 4wd hi or auto?

as per the computer Im getting 22-23 on the HWY at 70 mph looks about right at the pumps too

I got hand calculated 22.7 mpg on my trip between Niagara Falls and Maryland (1+4 passengers + luggage). I drove mostly around 70-75 mph (on US-15N and US-15S) on my new Ram with only 300 miles on it. I have 3.92 and e-torque. Locally, I am getting hand calculated 16.5 to 17.5 mpg in mixed City/Highway driving. No complains and pleasantly surprised.

Few things to consider - my truck is stock and will remain stay like this without any leveling kit or increased height. I have Pirelli tires that came with factory and I love their performance and slowly getting used to 22 Inch wheels. I don't have tonneau cover as of now.

20.3 on the Lie-o-meter means you're probably really getting more like 18.something.

City only = 15 MPG
Combined = 17
Towing a 6Klbs trailer including my SXS mostly uphill = 12MPG
I only use 91 and 89 octanes (I know octane's effect is minimal)
Mostly downhill @ 80mph avg. = 24mpg
