Has anyone had the Rambox, and decided they could do without next time, or is it a must have. It doesn't seem like the bed swing boxes that are available are a comparable option

whts your thoughts?

I’ve had them and like them fine, but later I bought a long bed ( which was much more important ) and installed a topper. Probably will never get them again.

If you sweat the details, they can tend to drive people crazy because they don’t sit really flush on all sides and corners. It did bother me. They are adjustable, and I did that, but there is only so much you can do.

There are some people that have had issues with the outside painted plastic covers coming unglued and peal up. Don’t know if that is a heat thing. They are all plastic.

Must have for me but I use them almost daily for my work tools etc and is nice not having to climb in the bed for a simple tool like I use to.

My 4th Gen didn’t have them and I immediately regretted not buying one with them when I ran into a guy that had them.

a must have for me, had them in my 4th gen, and now in my 5th gen..

i dont use them.for work but i use them to carry stuff i aleays want in my truck but not in the cab

also really like the bed divider extensionner that come.with it, i use the bed diver alot to keep stuff all the way near the tailgate

also i really.like the look of it, dont know if thats weird lol, mine are perfectly aligned.

They were a 'want' but a long bed was a need, so I never had the option.

On the daily stuff, I wish I had gotten them. I cannot recall how many times I've had to flip the bed cover open, climb up there, just to grab something as stupid as the tire plug kit & pump in my storage tote. But, when we take family road trips, that bed space has been invaluable. I'm not sure everything would have fit with the shorter bed and the RAM boxes taking up even more space.

They are a must have. Lid alignment bothered me for a little while, but once the "new" wore off I got over it. And as @crusher said, the bed divider is awesome, and makes the rambox option a no-brainer for me. You might also consider the MFT since we're discussing bed options. Loading and unloading without having to reach over the tailgate is priceless!

The only downside I have is you lose a lot of bed space and you are stuck with a 5'7 bed.
Lots of the space on the side is generally "dead space" but the problem when you stack a lot of boxes or whatever you can still put on the hump, with Ramboxes you just don't have that space.

I have 100% filled my bed (and 1.5 ft above the top) before with Ramboxes and a retractable cover where I would of been able to fit more if I had the few inches on both sides.

I don't regret getting Ramboxes though.

not a must have for many (most trucks do not have them, so market speaks) - trade off is available space in bed. Also see other posts on this site about them leaking.

Unlike on 4th gens, leaks are rare on 5th gens. Pretty much a non-issue if that's your only concern about them. Even if you get one with leak it can be adjusted to stop the leaking.

How about "I wish I had them" votes?
My truck ticked just about all the boxes (no pun intended) but some of the things it does not have are annoying.
Some "missing" items can be added after the fact or aftermarket, if I cared to spend the money, but Ram Boxes are not really something you can remedy if it didn't come that way.

This the info I wanted to hear. I get the long box vs rambox comments, and that is a necessity for many. For the people that have had them, it seems like they are pretty much a "must have" if you don't require a long box.

at first i wanted nothing to do with the mft, mainly becaise of the look of the crack (space) in the middle (well not exactly middle) of the mft

but now i almost wish i would of got the mft, looks very practical, amd with my knee injury it woupd be easier to get to the content in the box

I think it also depends what color your truck is.
Mine is all black so I don't even notice the crack, i'm also only behind the truck if I am loading stuff anyways.
Only downside I can think is reduces your payload if that is something you are going for.

My buddy had them on his 4th gen. He seemed to really like them. I had them on an Avalanche years ago. They were nice to have.

When it came to my new Ram I wanted bed rack and cover options that wouldn't work with the boxes. My current setup with tent would prevent them from opening.

Hmmm... interesting concept. Wonder how well it actually works and how well it seals, stays in place...

Still wouldn't work with my roof top tent.
