Help me with my wheel strategy

My 21 Night Edition Limited has the factory 22 inch blackish wheels on it. It also has the factory tires, so at 11K on the clock I'd imagine they'll be in need of replacement soon.

I figured buying some 20 inch aftermarket wheels wouldn't be a horrible idea. I'd get more sidewall, which would give some protection while occasionally doing "truck like things". The current wheels have a tire so thin that it rivals that of my 370Z, and are one parking error away from being rashed . I would also think that tires would cost less on a 20 inch wheel.

From a cosmetic perspective, I'd likely stick to black as the truck has the Night Edition package. Choosing a look would be tough - you can't go too "tough off road" since a Limited gives a "luxurious approach", but it is a truck so you don't want some fancy BBS rims.

So, a few questions:

1) Is my logic flawed? Would 20 inch wheels give me more "protection" and the bonus of a slightly cheaper tire?
2) What size do I want? Whatever the factory 20 inch size is? If so, what offset? I'd like them to fit like a factory wheel.
3) What wheel gives me a look that doesn't "cheapen" the truck, but doesn't give the impression that I'm anything beyond a mall crawler that puts a lot of stuff in the bed almost daily?
4) Where to buy? What can I expect to spend on used?

When I was in high school/college I read Sport Compact Car daily, had a few different wheels in my life, and knew more about tires/wheels than I care to admit. That was a long time ago, and my knowledge today consists of the fact that they are round and they roll.

TIA for the long uneducated questions.

Logic not flawed …. 20” will be cheaper all around and give better ride …. 20” X 9” with 0 offset and 275/55R20 …. I fon’t know what you mean by “trucky things” but sounds like the new BFG Trail Terrain or Pirelli ATS would be a good fit …. Good wear, quiet, with a “trucky” look …. Not sure what color your truck is, but the Fuel Rebel comes in 3 colors …. Bronze looks friggin awesome on a black truck …. Jus sayin …. You’re probably lookin at $2500 … Holla if you want any more info

The factory wheels have a -18 (maybe -19) offset. I upgraded from 18" to 20" wheels on my 2021 Laramie and went with 295/65r20 tires. These would not work without a lift and some trimming. I would stick with something like a 275/55r20 to keep close to factory size and not need a lift or trimming. A 285 (or even better, a 295) width would help protect the wheels from curb rash. Instead of the wheel, the tire would hit well before the wheel. This is with a 20x9 (factory size) or maybe a 20x10 wheel.

I’m sorry, but no, you have given wrong information …. Factory wheels are +19 offset

ALL factory wheels are a positive offset. Around +20

-19 pushes them out about 1in from the oem fender flare.

And go on customoffsets.com it will walk you through what you want

By trucky things I don't mean much, I basically use it for the bed and nothing else. I'd just like to have some protection against expensive wheels when I inevitably hit curb or some other object with these sports car wheels. I'd likely get a highway tire.

The truck is white with the night edition package. Any other suggestions on black wheels that say "I'm Gen X and realize it, the truck is in mall crawler trim, but could look slightly more aggressive, but not like an off road machine because we all know that is fake news?"

Welp, time to revisit this thing. Tires are probably needing replacement within a few months, rears are at 5/32 - 6/32. I don't drive a ton though.

Tires seem to have a few models that everyone gravitates to (don't recall which one, but I'm sure a quick search will tell me), but I'm still lost on wheels. Other than going to Tire Rack, Discount Tire, etc and punching in the size.....any recommendations on a decent quality 20X9 19 offset wheel that doesn't try and make a mall crawler look too much like something it isn't? Brand to avoid or look for? Best place to find used?

I love my 20x9 hostile rage, blade cut, +0 offset wheels. Im running Nitto ridge grapplers 285/60. They are about 1” taller. I have a ‘21 Limited. See my profile pic, I can post more if you want.

So interesting. When I looked at Tire Rack, if you choose 19 or 20mm offset, Fuel is the only brand they carry and it is limited to a dozen or so wheels.

Discount Tire Direct does not allow you to filter offset.

For sure custom offsets website for better filters & various photos.

I have a similar build to yours @greenlawnracing. I downsized to 20” to get some extra meat & no longer worry about curb rash - especially on some nice Vossen wheels. Rides better also.

Go to the gallery on their website. Select the truck you have and the wheel/tire size/lift you want/have.

Thanks! I saw them on a few other trucks on here and was hooked on the style. But you’re right, I almost didn’t want to buy them bc of the price - at the same time, less people will have them especially in the 2 tone color it seems so I guess it’s a give & take.

As mentioned earlier, the Fuel Rebels look really good on Rams & easier on the wallet. I’ll try & post a link to the Ram gallery for custom offsets but you may need to re-enter the vehicle details in the top center: https://www.customwheeloffset.com/wheel-offset-gallery?make=Ram&model=1500&sort=yno&year=2022
