Hey gang. I've been posting for a while as I debate my next truck purchase. Well, I finally made my decision and picked up my new 2022 1500 Laramie last week! It's been interesting to consider options in this crazy market, but I'm happy I found a great deal despite the circumstances. My previous trucks were all Silverados (2009, 2017, 2020) and I loved them all. Never had a problem out of any of them. My 2020 RST was a particularly fun truck with the 6.2 V8 and 10 speed transmission. I still say it's the best powerstain on the market in a pickup. But I decided to get out of trucks for a bit while I considered some career decisions. Now that things are more stable, I'm happy to be back in a truck.

I went back and forth on trucks for a while trying to decide what I wanted. My family and I have been loyal GM buyers for years. I also have a Corvette in the garage I adore. I've ridden in a few new Fords and I already see my chiropractor enough - I don't need something to send me there more often. I waited for the refreshed 2022 GM trucks to be revealed before I made my decision and I'm glad I did. I like what they did with the refresh - particularly with the Sierra. The interior ia a huge improvement all around but the addition of a console shifter ultimately steered me away. I know it seems like a small thing to some, but I can't stand the idea of giving up that much interior space when it isn't necessary. I don't love electronic shifters overall but since the 5th gen Ram is in its fourth model year with no major issues, I knew the knob would be good. Plus, the financial incentive in buying a Ram far outweighs the competitors right now.

800 miles in and I love the Ram more every time I drive it. It's without a doubt the quietest and smoothest pickup I've ever driven. I decided to spoil myself a little bit and go with the Laramie this time. It's my first truck with leather, ventilated seats, auto high beams, etc. I traded in an Audi and this truck feels just as luxurious inside. It just makes you feel like king of the road. The 5.7 eTorque/8 speed, although not quite as good as GM's 6.2/10 speed, is a great and fun combo. Plenty of power! So far I've debadged most of the emblems except for the front RAM and rear ram head, and those have been converted to black. I had the Line-X sprayed today. After salt season is over I'll do rims, exhaust, and intake. I may get into suspension stuff eventually but we'll see. It drives so good right now I'd hate to mess with that. The only thing I'd do differently is the 3.92 rear end. I wish it was the 3.21 for fuel economy purposes but it probably doesn't make a huge difference in the end and I got too good a deal on this truck to pass it up.

Speaking of deals, I did really well on this truck. My original plan was to order a Hydro Blue truck because I just love the color. But watching everyone play Russian roulette in the ordering threads made me frustrated for them and I didn't even have a truck in the mix. When they pulled Hydro Blue from the options, I knew it was going to be much easier to just find something on the lot somewhere provided I could find a decent deal. Luckily, I did just that. I used to work in city government where I bought more than a few Charger PPV from a semi-local dealer to me. They always beat the state contract price so I figured they would have a good deal. It turns out they were having a black Friday deal and I was able to score an in-bound Billet Silver truck for nearly $8,000 off MSRP! That competes with or beats any of the quotes I received for ordering. I call that a huge win in this market and I love the color. Billet has a lot of character for a silver and it's so easy to keep looking fresh.

Here's a picture from the day after I brought it home, post ceramic coating. I've done some work to it since then so I'll update when I take better pictures. I'm excited to be part of the community!

My last truck was a 2008 GMC...almost trouble free and I loved it! This truck is SO much nicer and the Billet Silver is very easy to keep looking nice. I LOVE the sport package, though I couldn't find one when I was looking, so I bought a set of brand new take off wheels/tires exactly like yours because I like that look so much. I've put 38K on my Laramie since February and couldn't be happier so far. The interior is what sells this truck...I get so many comments from non-truck folks about how much nicer it is then they thought it would be. Even my Ford-loving cousins kept complimenting it while at hunting camp.
Good luck with yours!

Ahhh, Billet Silver...the color I never wanted until I got one and have fallen in love with. The wife has the Granite Crystal on her Jeep Cherokee with their blackout package. The jeep is the most beautiful I've ever seen...for the first 15 minutes after you wash and wax it, after that, even a day of dust and it looks filthy. The billet silver just looks good all the time, even dirty...

It's funny you say that because they also had a Granite truck on the lot - same options and same price if I wanted it. It looked amazing in the sun that day but I detail cars as a side gig and I knew what living with that color would be like. I'm glad I went with Billet instead.

Welcome! Nice truck! I've always liked silver vehicles but for some reason I did not want silver on my truck. Like a numbnut, I went with black lol. I love the color, but what a chore it has been to keep clean. Looking forward to future updates to see what you have planned for your new ride! Enjoy it!

UPDATE:

Since I bought the truck I've done an S&B intake, Hellwig sway bar, AWE exhaust, and most recently new wheels and a level today. It's all coming together nicely. Wheels are 20" Chevy Trail Boss replicas and the Motofab 2" level. Love the way it turned out. Only thing left is to paint the brakes. I'm thinking yellow...

How do you like the AWE exhaust? Having a tough time deciding between the AWE or Borla Atak for my 2022 Rebel.

HA! You did! I recognize your username now. How funny! Those tips completely transformed that truck after getting the of the factory USB ports. I got compliments on them everywhere.

Honestly, this is the best exhaust system I've ever owned. I've been a Corsa man for years and I still love their systems. But I always wished they were a bit deeper. The AWE system solves that by making a deeper sound without giving up any of the drone-free experience from the Corsa systems. I especially love opening my rear sliding glass and listening to the start/stop kick back on. It makes a mean growl. But on the highway I can barely hear it unless I hit an incline. If they ever made a set for the C6 Corvettes, I'd sell my Corsa the next day.

The Borla system will drone and the tips aren't as high quality.

The Borla system doesn't drone at all! I've owned em all through the years short of this new AWE system. I too was a Corsa guy but went the Borla route on this Ram and love it. I agree the AWE tips look great but for the difference in price they definitely should!

Is one louder then the other or is it just a different sound all together?

Havent heard the AWE in person so cant speak to it but love the ATAK on the hemi, I actually wish it were louder. Its deep and screams when you get on it... but seems to pass the test when I have wifey and my girls in the truck who only know the drone of Flowmaster and Magnaflow through the years and always comment on how quiet it is while cruising on the highway. Now my 6 am cold starts that shake the house are another story and the bane of my 16yr olds existence lol... but that tones down after 15-20 secs.

Congratulations on the new truck, and welcome to the Ram community. I hope yours is well put-together and keeps you happy and in the Ram camp.
.
How about Hydro Blue for the brake calipers? Or half yellow, half Hydro Blue?
.
Just curious, how did the Charger PPVs work out for your users? California Highway Patrol switched from Explorers to Chargers a couple of years ago (nearly all of them naturally-aspirated 3.6 L V6 engines - a handful of 5.7 L models), they look great and I haven't heard anything bad about the Chargers here. But the CHPs are a bit overly-proud of themselves, and they carry so much radio gear that they claim they can't make the Chargers work (waaah!) so CA is in-process rolling out pursuit Chevy Tahoe SUVs. The Tahoes are definitely better looking than the Explorers, but those Chargers just look much more bad-a$$ than any of the SUVs, like a police car ought to look. Anyhow, what was your fleet experience with the Charger PPVs?

I hear ya on the wife test. Lol. Is the Atak a direct bolt on or is there cutting and welding involved?
