I really need to get comfortable with the idea of making changes with Alfa...

Som any cool things!
I'm when I first downloaded the app, to now, it has become much easier to make changes. When I first downloaded the app, it was kind of clunky, IMO. Now it's a lot easier to navigate and find what you need.

It took me about a week of reading, watching lots of videos on youtube and buying and downloading the software, and playing with it before I even tried to connect it to the vehicle to just get familiar with navigating within it. After I felt comfortable there, I connected to the vehicle a few times just to make sure all that worked, then did the Read System ID file for reference before I made a change. From there I felt very comfortable. I did things in baby steps slow and methodically.

It's definitely a little intimidating the first time you use the app, but it gets easier each time you change something. I started out with reprogramming my tire size. After that, the next few changes were pretty easy. It helps to watch a few videos. Jimmy07 has been a tremendous help too.

I read somewhere, probably here, where they took the log file, made a copy in Word and used that to track changes as well. I know Alfa does it as well but kinda of a good idea to track as well

Download the update to computer. Extract to thumb drive. Plug into USB port on dash.

I still want the source files so I can recode and add whatever I want. I work in automation so not having access to customize things exactly as I want is really annoying.

Thanks for that, I couldn’t find the post to add to the front page. Will add tomorrow.

Edited: Added to page 1 post 1.

Since it runs on android, I'm sure someone will root it at some point. I'm not sure I'm that gutsy, but would be cool to see what could be done.

I asked in another thread, but it didn't get any traction. I didn't want to clog this post up with asking about the PR39.7 update, but my truck that's on LR34.31 is saying the update is not compatible. I ignored it and started downloading the update, but it failed and gave me error code 01 (can't find any info about that specific error) then reset back to 34.31. Do I just keep trying to see if it sticks?

Start here and read about 5 pages and make sure you are doing things correctly.

Sounds like you have an oddball software version which may mean your 12" isn't compatible. LR34.2 should be the version prior to PR39.7

Maybe try going to LR34.2 first then to PR39.7, I was already on LR34.2 when I did the update to PR39.7.

I totally agree with this. There's some dirt simple things I'd love to tweak like making the font size the same across the header bar of the uconnect screen. As a UI designer, that absolutely drives me crazy. Unfortunately, we'll never get that level of access.
While driving my wife's pacifica on a family vacation last year, I had an idea for a perfect app for parents. A paging/announcement app. It's amazing how you can all be in one vehicle no more than 5 feet from each other, but not be able to hear each other across the van. Or there's too much noise from the media that you can't get the kids attention behind you. So this app would be one button that pauses any media on all screens, and mutes the audio so that the driver or front passenger could talk to kids in the back seat. It could even use the microphones to carry your voice directly into their headphones. Or play it over the speakers for the kids in the 3rd row. Seems like a really simple app to develop, and all the hardware is already in place to do it.
