Ive had this happen twice now, both while backing down a driveway. All of a sudden the brakes lock up, and on the dash it says "BRAKING!!" across the whole display.

I'm in reverse, backup senspors are on, I didn't think this truck had an active braking system? It must or I have a major issue. Can really catch you off guard. I'm guessing its detecting the Road, as I come down a sloped driveway?

Any others experience this? 2019 Rebel with ETorq, and air suspension

The new RAM's do have an active breaking system when backing up. I ended up disabling mine as it was constantly stopping me from backing into my driveway which does have a mild slope (not drastic enough in my opinion for it to stop me). I don't know if there is any way to get it tuned or not, I would like the option to save me in parking lots or if a kid runs behind me - but it happening like it does when nothing is there...

I have the 8.4 uconnect w/out NAV - I am able to turn it off/on - I don't see any options for sensitivity?

thanks for the responses guys, I'll look into turning this off in UConnect.

Yeah, it does it to me backing out of my brother in laws driveway. Scared the cr@p out of me and the family the first time it happened. I disabled the braking because of it.

I sort of get why it does it to me at my BIL house BTW. The angle that the driveway and street meet at is probably 45°, with just enough drop that the sensors probably think I'm about to back into a sloped wall till the tires hit the road and the back end starts coming up again. This transition is steep enough that I come in and out of his driveway very slowly. With a hitch ball on my Honda Element if I were to try and pull straight in or out I guarantee it would grind, same for my wife's Pilot.

I suspect most of us that have had the issue would find something similar about the places we've had it happen.

My truck does the same. I can't back out of my driveway without it going off and slamming on the brakes. I had my Service Department check it out and they found no problems; they said there is not a software update available either. So, I have the automatic braking disabled right now. If there is a sensitivity setting I have not seen it. If someone knows about a sensitivity setting and where to access it; then please share.

I just read more into the manual. You can only turn it off. The sensitivity is for the rear park sense which is also part of the system.

Mine has surprised me a couple times, once it was picking up bushes behind / to the side of me and once while I was backing up next to a sand dune, once again, it was to the side of me.

I would not recommend turning it off, rather, get familiar with it and turn it off with the switch only when you know your surroundings and have total awareness and know it could be an issue. You did pay for it right. ;)

From a safety perspective, it’s had my back so to speak while backing out with cars to each side. It has seen people and cars and alerted me, as much as 50’ away. It’s never slammed the brake on me in those situations because I am careful but it’s nice knowing you have an extra set of eyes, these trucks aren’t getting any smaller and the blind spots are getting bigger.

There is a tsb 08-076-18 on this. Mine came on for no reason while backing up.

Dealer did the software update to fix this as specified in the tsb.

My truck was supposedly out of the VIN range for this TSB, despite being manufactured before the TSB came out (and me experiencing the issue). So the dealer did not flash it for me.

My only issue with it comes when I am in REVERSE but it activates because of something passing in front of the truck. It should be smart enough to ignore items passing in front of my if I'm in reverse.

Happens a lot while backing into parking spaces while other drivers are are impatient and pass by.

That sounds like a software glitch. They do not have auto braking for the front.

Mine was built after the vin range as well but the dealer did the flash anyway. Haven't had the issue since then. But it took them over 2 hours, not sure why.

They turned me down and said they ‘could not duplicate’. They’re 0 for 2 on my last service visit.

I had the update done and it made no change to my issue, and that is the angle of my driveway. I just had to turn off the braking
