Best warranty options?

Picking up my ‘22 Limited later this week and this will be the first vehicle I am actually planning to get an extended warranty on. I like working on my own vehicles, but for this truck I want to leave it almost 100% stock and never have to worry about it.

That being said, I’ve always dismissed anything the financial person says when signing for vehicles in regards to extra coverage beyond the manufacturer one, but might listen this time

Are there third party warranties that are a better value than whatever the dealership will try and sell me on? Anything directly through Mopar worth looking at? TYIA.

The most common is to buy the MOPAR warranty through Ziegler, that's gonna be about as good as you can get online. (https://www.chryslerfactoryplans.com Use the promo code PAYINFULL). They are a CJDR dealer that sells these warranties in volume online, so they charge much less than your typical dealership. Don't bother with 3rd party warranties nowadays IMO.

What is the dealer asking? You may be able to negotiate with them. That's what I did, and got my 8 year/100k/$200 deductible MOPAR warranty for $1675. The price has gone up since then, but you should still be able to get fairly close.

In my experience extended warranties on modern vehicles will often pay for themselves IF YOU GET THEM FOR THE RIGHT PRICE and keep the vehicle long enough. Your typical dealers will usually add a 100% markup on them, so use that as your measuring stick. For a truck known to have lifter/cam issues, cracking manifolds, and a ton of expensive electronics. $1700 is cheap insurance.

(FWIW, my wife's vehicle is a '17 Honda with an extended warranty. We are up to about $15k in warranty repairs, most of which fall outside of the factory warranty period/miles. The latest issue resulted in a new transmission. We paid less than $1000 for that 8 year/120k warranty).

This is what I was looking for…thank you!!!

I’ll check out the online Mopar warranty. $1700 for 100k miles is BOT BAD

As above, find the Zeigler price online and beat up the dealer with it. They get spiffed for selling x number of Maxcare whether they make anything on it or not.

My dealer went $100 under Zeigler.

My 8 year/60K on my $87K Cummins truck was $1075 in March 2020.

You're basically extending the 3/36 bumper to bumper and whatever the powertrain warranty is (Cummins is 5/100K) to the Maxcare plan that has very few exceptions, mostly wear items. I always time out before I mile out.

Thank You GKIII for the promo code PAYINFULL. This drop the price of a 7yr /100k Maximum Care plan from $2020 to $1655 from Zeigler just now for my 2022 and I’m going to purchase.

Look at getting geico insurance as a new car will come with geico mechanical breakdown coverage. Good for up to 7 yrs, 100k miles. And it’s only like $20 additional every six months.

I just added a new car to my policy today (not my RAM unfortunately) and saw that as an option. Is there a document that lists what's covered? Anyone ever use it and care to share there experience?

I’m not sure what is covered but online gives you a list of what is not covered, basically maintenance items, alignment, tires, brakes and misuse. Plus there is a $250 deductible each time you use it.
I also had no idea about it until I added my truck to the policy and it was automatically added.

Is this warranty transferable if you sell your vehicle?

I purchased the 7/100 Maximum Care warranty from Zeigler today ($1655) and the transaction was marked “Tax Exempt”. Dealer wanted $2900 when my truck was delivered a month ago. I travel 15k miles (much towing) on average a year now and plan to replace at 100k. Hope I never need it, but looking at some of the repair costs others have listed I believe it’s a wise purchase for me even if never used.

Yep. That’s the only type of coverage that I’ve made my money back on with every vehicle we’ve purchased…including the Ram.

Awesome. I really love the oem wheels that came with the truck andrew never see wanting to change them so for only an extra $300 am actually considering adding this option.

Did you end up using your coverage for pothole damage or curb rash?

A storm inlet adjacent to a curb “got me”, pulling the wheel down and against the curb (badly). And I’m OCD about curb rash! The tire was replaced at the same time…apparently required when a wheel is repaired.

Yep, I have that and all other ones. after couple weeks, they sent me 4 different things, you are supposed to keep in Truck.
e.g. roadside assistance, wheel/tire, appearance, mastershield, etc...

some people will claim getting extended warranty and other stuff is waste of money.
Until stuff breaks when basic warranty runs out. like screen on 2018's
