Problems filling gas tank

Has anyone run into problems filling their gas tank. I have just under 10K miles and I’ve been to three different gas stations and unable to add more than 1/4 gallon of gas before pump shuts down. Nobody else at gas station that’s pumping gas this problem. Took my wife’s car and it filled up just fine at that pump so it’s got to be something with the truck.

It was more of an issue with some 2019’s but I’ve heard there has been other years that have the same problem. My 2021 never fills up to the same amount. I usually put gas when I’m at a 1/4 tank and there’s days I pump 16 gallons there’s days I put 19 gallons. Even the needle shows that the truck isn’t 100% full at times.

From what I’ve read, the filler neck can get clogged with debris from the filling station. As a result, the fuel nozzle keeps clicking off like the tank is full. Might need to have the filler neck checked out for blockages.

seriously? never ever heard of clogging from debris...ever
but its probably the nozzle at the pump. some click off quickly and some don't. some pump at a faster rate which is most likely the issue.

I'm curious what it would be. I usually don't pump gas at the fastest rate possible. I try going through the slowest or middle setting. A few days ago when filling up from a 1/2 tank it stopped at 15 gallons. I knew it wasn't full so I waited 30 seconds and tried it again and another half a gallon went in. I waited another 30 seconds and another 30 seconds and another 1/2 gallon went in. I waited another 30 seconds and only a quarter of a gallon went in so I thought ok it should be filled past full. I turned on the truck to leave and the needle wasn't even to the full line.

I’ve tried all different speeds and it still does it. I’ll have to check the the fill neck.

Thanks for the tip.

Guess I'll have to check around the fill neck as well. Anything specific to look for?

I've heard people complain of this issue with the Ram, but I haven't experienced it. Until last weekend. I had a 1/4 tank, just rolled 9000 on the odometer and went to get gas. The pump must have clicked off 50 or 60 times. I could barely get anything in. I have the 33 gallon tank and it was taking forever to get gas so I left without being full.

If you regularly "top off" your tank, after it kicks off, before problem started, then you created the issue by filling your vent tube/charcoal canister with fuel, preventing proper venting while filling.

So usually after the pump stops I wait 30 seconds and then try once more. I don’t think that’s remotely close to people that keep clicking away when it stops the first time to round up their dollar amount. The only time I’ve clicked more then once was when I knew there was no way my tank was full at 15 gallons from a 1/4 tank. And even after doing it 4-5 times it wasn’t even full. So I don’t believe we’ve created the issue, I think it’s something with Ram’s fuel system.

There’s a lot of threads about this, so it might be good to read through them and see what fits your case.

I don’t keep clicking the pump after it fills. At least not before this started happening. I have to now as I can’t make it anywhere useful on only 0.25 gal of gas lol.

I find the problem happens intermittently. For me, the fix has been to not stick the pump nozzle all the way in the filler neck. I think its back pressure that shuts the pump off and with the nozzle all try way in there isn't enough venting when the tank isn't full.

some tiktok engineer dude claims if clicking off happens a lot just hold the nozzle upside down while filling the tank. no personal experience doing that
