Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax
Price: 22oz bottle for $19.99
Rating: 5 out of 5

Just wanted to post a brief write up on this product. I've seen numerous positive reviews and figured it was my turn to give it a shot. This Griots ceramic wax seems to be the real deal when it comes to ceramic sprays. I've tried several similar spray on application products in the past, and have never really been super impressed aside from the crowd favorite, P&S Beadmaker. There are a few others that stand out, but the Griots durability and $20 price point is what separates this product from the competition in my opinion. I did a thorough wash on my RAM a couple of weekends ago and then applied this immediately after I had finished drying the vehicle. The first coat called for almost half of the bottle's contents and I would say that I was generous with my application. The product is super simple to work with in that it did not seem to smear or leave streaks all over the paint like other products I have used. It could all be in my head, but I do not think I have achieved a comparable shine with any other products I have used on this truck previously. The depth and level of gloss is amazing and the flakes in the Diamond Black paint really pops when under the sun. The directions state to spray the product on the vehicle, wipe in with one side of your microfiber towel, and buff to a shine with the opposite side. It really was that simple. It is suggested to apply a second coat 24hrs after initial application for maximum durability. I did add a second layer but was very light with the product this time around. I would also add that I have read to avoid applying this product in excessive heat or direct sunlight. Being in FL, I knocked this out on a Saturday morning around 07:00am just as the sun had come up and I had zero issues with application. The product's hydrophobic/water beading properties seem to be "superior" as advertised with my short experiences with it.

What finally sold me on this product is the longevity study that ScottHD's YouTube channel conducted. A year after application on their test panel and the product continued to repel water just fine while most others had long failed. I'm looking forward to seeing if I find similar results in a real world scenario. I linked his video below, and I'd strongly suggest giving it a watch if interested in seeing how the product compared to some of the biggest competitors.

Pictures Below.

Trying to capture the paint flakes in the sunlight. Note: Those lines are not scratches or smeared product on the paint. It is lint left behind from the passes of the microfiber towels and it drives me absolutely crazy. I need to invest in some premium towels ASAP!

Final Thoughts: Excellent Price, easy application, pleasant smell, great finish and great hydrophobic properties so far. I will update on long-term durability if needed, but I would absolutely recommend at this point.

I'm a fan of Griot's products but have been hesitant to get this very product (because it seems "too good to be true"). Thanks for the "real world" review--I'll definitely be picking this up.

After it's applied, do you then use the Ceramic Speed Shine spray (https://www.griotsgarage.com/ceramic-speed-shine/) for periodic shine maintenance?

No problem! I'll be sure to update if I come across anything else worth noting. I will say that I was hesitant for the same reason, but at the same time I also held off due to the long term durability claims. If it really is as durable as the reviews state, I wouldn't want to apply this regularly with the fear of building up layers and layers of product on the paint. I figured I'd give it a shot, and only reapply once I see the product has neared failure.

I've been using Chemical Guys Speed Wipe quick detailer for now just because that is what I have on hand that I need to use up, but I think I might try the Griots Speed Shine. I haven't used many Griots products over the years, but based on what I've seen so far out of the 3-in-1 spray, I definitely would like to look into the rest of their product line.

I've tried this and the turtle wax line of "ceramics". Both are good for the price. I have found them both tough at times to buff out, though. For that, if anyone else has trouble, when the product hazes, you can buff it in with a damp micro, then dry with a dry micro. An extra step, but it helps. I do love griots stuff. Good products that are affordable and available on the shelf. I hate waiting on shipping ha.

Appreciate the tip! I didn't experience any trouble with buffing out, but it is good to note. Sure it might be an extra step, but could potentially save time and frustration in the long run if the product is being difficult. Seems I've been missing out on Griots for far too long now! I've used their Complete Polish on a few projects in years past and had no issues. Not sure why I never really looked into them much otherwise.

No problem. I did a bunch of research on it because I couldn't get it to buff out for some reason (temperature, humidity, etc.), I don't know. I thought I was just a moron until I found others with the same problem. I used to be a paste wax or nothing guy, but these synthetic sprays have really come a long way. I hardly use anything that's not a spray anymore unless I'm doing some sort of paint correction first. In all fairness, I have never tried a true ceramic, but I may do a diy application in the future. I have just never been able to justify the cost of having it done for me.

Hey JBowman – great write-up! Your truck looks amazing!

Here is my experience with Griot’s products.

The ceramic 3-in-1 is everything JBowman says. But something that he didn’t mention is that it makes bugs super easy to clean off. I just got back from a 2000 mile trip through Southern Cal, Arizona and Utah. I used to dread the 20 minutes it took to get all the bugs off the grill and hood. With 3-in-1 it takes less than 5 minutes. Just light rubbing with a microfiber glove is all that is needed. One bottle has lasted me 4 applications on my Ivory White 1500 plus 2 applications on my wife’s Prius. I just ordered the gallon refill.

I also tried two other Griot’s products. The Spray On Wax works OK. It is certainly easy to apply. But it isn’t much easier than the 3-in-1 and doesn’t last as long. So I’m not sure what the point is.

I bought the wheel cleaner as well. It is a fine product. Doesn’t seem any better or worse than other wheel cleaners I have used.

I just put in an order for Griot’s Wash Mop kit. Hoping it makes washing the roof and hood easier.

Thanks for the write up. I've been using Zaino products (mostly Z5 on dark paints and Zaino AIO) on my paint since my Corvette days, but thinking it might be time to switch to these new ceramics.

I use Griot's "normal" (non-ceramic) Speed Shine and it's pretty fantastic. I love the smell, and it's a great way of maintaining the wash/cleanliness (which you know, since you currently use a similar product).

I haven't either. I had planned to pay to have mine ceramic coated right after I purchased it but never got around to it due to the price. I read so many mixed reviews and I know a lot if it comes down the product used and the technique of the actual application, but I'm in the same boat as you. I can't seem to justify the cost and I would be absolutely sick to my stomach if I spent $1200+ for a professional level job and wasn't satisfied like many of the other reviews out there. I'd much rather use a product such as this. Sure it might not be as effective, but it appears it will work just fine for a truck that I plan on doing "truck" things with. Might be a different story if I had a high end sports car or exotic.

But something that he didn’t mention is that it makes bugs super easy to clean off
Thanks, and that is so awesome to hear. Cannot wait to see this for myself! Not sure how many of you all are familiar with FL Love Bug season, but a quick Google search will show you just how lovely it actually is to our vehicles. This sounds like it will be a game changer!

I used 3-1 the other day for the first time, it’s the best sealant or wax product I’ve ever used, and I’ve used a lot :). Looked better than it did when I ceramic coated it. Easy to use too.

Looks great! Did you need to clay it or do any paint correction first?

Thanks! I personally did not take those steps, but I'd imagine you would likely see even greater results if you did. I just did a thorough hand wash before applying. But I have read other reviews that recommended doing a strip wash with decontamination soap to ensure the surface area is clean of any other products or contaminants, but that also was not listed as a must in the directions. Here is the recommended steps for applying. I'll also note, Griots claims this product is safe to use on paint, wheels, chrome and plastic & rubber trim.

Hey guys,

Been doing some research on what wax to go with and it seems that the technology has come a long way. I normally just use the old liquid/paste style waxes that you need to apply with a pad, let dry, and then buff off. Seems that these spray waxes are pretty quick, just spray on wipe all over and buff off. Do they compare to the traditional waxes or is there no replacement for some elbow grease? I don't wax too often so longevity is a concern so I'm not waxing the truck every month or so.

Meguiar's has always been my go to and they have their own style of spray on ceramic wax. I've just started to branch out into other brands and seems Griots gets some good reviews. wonder if I used a good paste wax as a foundation and then just maintain the wax with some spray ever other wash.

Ugh. Love bug season. I lived in the Tampa area (Valrico and then MacDill AFB) for 3 1/2 years--and can verify you're not kidding.

I'll let others chime in as many will have a more professional opinion than what I have, but I honestly have not used a traditional paste wax for many years now. I will occasionally use a liquid wax with a dual action polisher on my other vehicles, but have yet to touch my truck with anything other than spray on waxes. For me, the convenience factor alone makes it worth it. Even if you do apply them more frequently, it doesn't take much time at all to do from start to finish. That said, the longevity claims of this product are really really good so I think it is going to end up being a win/win no matter how you want to look at it. Time will tell.

I might use liquid wax once a year or so now depending on the vehicle. It's usually in conjunction with a paint correction, if needed, as a top coat. I know a lot of products say not to put over other products, but I do in this case. Unless it's a true, professional grade ceramic, I doubt it matters. It hasn't for me anyway. So this is what I do. I'm not saying it's for everyone, but it works for me.

If it's clean and scratch / debris free, I just use a cheap spray ceramic, like listed above.

Minor debris / roughness in the paint, claybar after washing to get smooth again. Very light compound with my DA to rid any light scratches. Maintain with spray. Might mix in some liquid wax before that if I feel like it / have time but I usually don't.

If it's a full blow correction, I'll do it all. Wash, clay, heavier polish, light polish / swirl remover, liquid wax, maintain with spray after. This is usually on my winter stored vehicles as needed in the spring.

I don't worry about multiple layers of protectants, because in my mind, they wear off in the weather anyway. Hope my rambling makes sense. Again, not saying this is THE way, but it's MY way.

Thanks for all the input guys!

Think I'm going to claybar the truck, use some liquid wax for a base layer and then just use the spray ceramic stuff after washes to keep the wax touched up. Maybe every 6 months do a new liquid coat?
