I just now realized that apparently because of the chip shortages my ram never came with the active airdam, anyone on this forum attempted to install one by just purchasing the part # and etc?

Mine didn't come with it also. There's a few folks on here that took theirs off. I'm wondering if they're willing to sell them. Is it a simple plug and play?

That's what I'm wondering aswell. If it's just a simple plug in and the system register it I'll be glad to pop one in

I'm one of those who removed their AAD. It hasn't affected my fuel economy enough for me to notice a change. Not sure it would be worth adding it unless you are a hyper-miler. There is another thread where someone wanted to add one to their truck that didn't come with it. I posted pics of the location of the wire harness and plug, and his truck didn't have that. Your trucks may have the wiring if they didn't get the AAD because of the chip shortage. I'll have to see if I can find those pics. And sorry, I'm not wanting to sell mine :ROFLMAO:

Mine didn't come with it and I'm glad. One less thing to go wrong or have damaged. Plus if I ever decide to change the bumper I don't have to worry about it.

If anyone is interested in an active air damn for a 2019 Ram 1500, pm me. I disconnected it a year ago and removed it yesterday.

I’m all for technology but the active air dam is just one more item to fail.

I’m down here in the south so cooling is primary, perhaps if I lived in upper Michigan I would have a different prospective.

I guess it's either going to fail deployed or retracted, right? I was under the car yesterday checking it out and it seems like a pretty simple thing..just a motor with an electronic cable. If mine failed and I was out of warranty, I'd probably just leave it be.

So I have been wanting to do this for a while and plan to do so once my lift kit is installed. The only thing that's held me back is the huge void that exposes the front part of the engine where the belts are. I've seen other threads citing the instance that a rather large rodent or road debris gets thrown up in there, sounds like it could cause issues.

There has been a thread running where @Shifts And Grins Fab has been crafting a skid plate for the front. That's what I am waiting for.

But I find it interesting Ram is making these trucks now without the AAD. I get the chip shortage reasoning, but makes me think it's been an effete mass that can be removed without issue. I've heard reports that removing it doesn't change gas mileage much, if at all.

The large void was a mild concern for me as well, but after driving without either air dam for well over a year, neither my wife's truck nor my truck has had anything thrown up there which caused any issues. I plan to make some kind of shield before winter hits this year. I just haven't had the time yet. I'm not looking for a skid plate, as I'm not wanting to add weight to the front of what is already a heavy truck.

This gives me a little confidence to do it sooner rather than later, because I hate the look of the air dam/AAD on the front. Plus it would give a smidge more clearance for changing the oil. I'd be happy with a shield instead of a skid plate, anything to give a little more protection.

I have my grill shutters removed completely and my air damn is turned off via a custom tune.

We need a 5th gen non Rebel to get some final measurements and finalize the design. We were thinking of a lighter aluminum plate that we could offer raw aluminum or powder coat black. Some have asked for a skid plate as well so that could be another option for people that are looking for a skid and less concerned about weight.

I'd let you use mine if I was in Gilbert. I'm just a short 1300 mile drive away from there. :D
