Saw the new Tundra today

I'm leaning towards diesel for my next truck so Toyota is probably not in the running; but very excited for this new truck, a strong Toyota = stronger Ram, the more competition the better.

They're the second truck moving to coil springs. The 5.7 is probably dead, some guys are suggesting a hybrid of sorts for base engine and possibly a replacement v8 or plain turbo (not a fan) for the premium engine. Well see!
 
Toyota unveiled the new Land Cruiser for the global market today and it has two new engines. A gasoline twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 with 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque and a turbodiesel twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6 with 304 hp and 516 pound-feet of torque. Both mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission.

Perhaps a preview of things to come with the new Tundra?

I'd be pleasently surprised if Toyota offered a diesel in their half tons; for some reason they avoid diesels in North America, it might have something to do with the very strict regulations and low uptake rate just not making it worth it.
 
It's all wrapped up. Where's the bow on top? I am definitely not interested in a hybrid. I'd go with diesel before hybrid. Just my personal opinion.
 
They better be coming out with a TON of new and up-to-date tech on those trucks. They've been behind the technology curve for what seems like a decade.
 
Yeah I’m curious to see the new interiors and tech. My buddy just bought his wife a brand new highlander. Paid 40k for it and he raves about the thing. I actually drove it a few month ago and was not impressed. The interior was cheap feeling and outdated.
 
I’m old school, patriotic, and no way in Hell I would own a Toyota Tundra
truck. It’s weird, because I don‘t necessary feel the same way for a Toyota Tacoma. When I was growing up, there were no full size import trucks so our American full size trucks were sacred, and I guess still feel that way. Send em back over the pond.... you can have em.
 
The Tacoma and Tundra are North American built trucks, shipping them over the pond would be actually exporting them.

Yes, some of the profit goes back to Japan, but that isn't much in the sales price of a vehicle. A lot of money stays in North America for parts, materials, and labor.

The Yoda vs Ram post made me wonder.

I just typed in my Chinese loving Googlr search box "how many Ram parts are American made". These days vehicles might be assembled in the US but not "made" here. Heck many Rams are even assembled in Mexico.

Looks like both the Taco and the Tundra beat out Ram for percentage of being American made trucks. So really we are being less patriotic by buying a Ram than a Yoda!

Funny how that works.
 
All valid and good points. Just doesn’t feel right. I’m just too red I guess.
 
I am honestly the same way, at least for full size trucks & SUVs, I like to buy American.

For cars however that is a different story, we recently purchase a new Toyota C-HR. I have to say, I really am enjoying the dealership customer service at Toyota. I wished RAM service was half as good.

The 2020+ Highlanders have a pretty nice interior. Our 2019 is pretty nice even considering the very outdated infotainment.

The chart shows US and Canadian parts content, but I thought they include Mexico for North America, that still doesn't quite add up, since it would be 85% if you add them up.

Maybe they used to? Using Jeep as an example; JK Wrangler showed 75% with no Mexico content listing, but dropped to 58% for JL Wrangler
