HVAC/climate control system question

Hey all. 2021 rebel for me with the 12" screen.

The question I have is when I select the heat/air to just the front window defrost mode I notice air is still blowing out the floor vents. Then if I select the defrost/floor vent mode the system still operates the same. To me I would assume that when I select the defrost only mode, there shouldn't be ANY air routed to the floor vents. This is annoying because when it is cold and I select for the heat to only blow on the window my feet get really hot! All of my other rams (different gens) did not do this. Anyone else notice this and could confirm that when the defrost only mode is selected that air should NOT come out the floor vents? I'm thinking there is something wrong and the controller is not routing the air properly.

Thanks

sounds like a problem with the blend door inside the HVAC box. some air to the floor is likely unavoidable...but it should be minimal.

It's not something that I've noticed in my 2020 Laramie.

its definitely not minimal. it is the same amount of airflow that is routed to the floor from the "defrost + floor" and "defrost only" selections...

I took my 2020 Laramie to the dealer for the same problem. They had to open up my dash for a wiring problem so I asked to check why the front defroster was blowing hot air down to the floor, which I have no way of turning off.

Last year I had to drive from NJ to MD to pick up a new snow blower in the dead of winter. My feet were scorched from 6 hours of hot air hitting them during the ride.

The dealer told me this was "normal operation" and there was nothing they could do about it. Seems pretty far from normal to me.
