on a 2020 Laramie silver with the midnight package or a 20 Ford F-150 Lariat with the 3.5 EB. Ram is sharper inside and out but there is something about a turbo charged engine. I've only owned one other Dodge and that was a 03 1500. First year they brought back the Hemi. Also, I've never bought a vehicle with such a price tag. Gonna decide on Monday. They let me take the Ram home.

As a lifelong Ford guy that just purchased a 2021 RAM Limited I would personally recommend you go with the RAM. Sure my Raptor had a bit more butt-in-the-seat pull, but the 10-speed transmission and many many other issues I’ve had with my recent Fords has completely turned me off from Ford. Either way I hope your happy with your decision and good luck!

Get the RAM, definitely the RAM! The comfort in the cab just blows any other truck in todays market out of the water in my opinion. Having had a V6 in a full size truck I much prefer the V8's hands down. It's what makes you happy in the end that is most important. If you decide on the Ford, to me, that's like going to dinner with family in a world class steak house and ordering chicken noodle soup and a glass of water, while the rest of us are having steak, baked potatoes, and a couple of Jameson's for good measure. But, that's just me. Of all the trucks I've had, this RAM is my favorite no question.

from someone who came from a 16 Ram express 5.7, to an 18 F150 STX w/ 2.7 EB, then back to a Ram 5.7 ...

the twin turbo is super fun :) having also driven the 3.5 EB in a few different vehicles .... a twin turbo V6 is sooo much more fun and engaging and the 10 speed auto is brilliant. I remember the ZF 8 speed in my 16 being quite clunky for all 22k miles that I owned it. have yet to actually drive my new Ram beyond a test drive, so can't speak to the 21's tranny. a TT is definitely the engine for someone who's into modifying and into newer technology and frankly just something different than a pushrod V8 that's been around forever ... problem is, the EB's just sound terrible! :)

the new gen Ram is interior focused. the build quality and features shine on the Ram ... and where do you spend most of your time with your truck? in the drivers seat ...

I had a 16 1500 express then 18’ 1500 sport and now am waiting on my 2021 Laramie.. I thought I might switch it up this time and I shopped Ford. I too was interested in the 3.5 EB.. I test drove a very nicely equipped 2020 lariat msrp around $63xxx. Truck was fast, felt quicker than my last two trucks, but were it was lacking was in ride quality and interior was outdated. The 21 is going to have a completely refreshed interior and dash and tech, so I thought I’d be able to get a decent discount on leftover 20, not the case. Inventory so low and they had no definitive timeline for new 21s to ship , they didn’t want to come down on the price. You will not find discounts and incentives like Ram offers on the F150, similar msrp truck could be hundreds more a month. Good luck with choosing.

For what it‘s worth. I test drove the new 2021 F-150s last month and boy, have they have stepped up their game.

I’ve had my Limited since June 2018 and love it, but I am not brand loyal and will seriously consider the 2021+ F-150 when it’s time to shop again.

The interior got a massive redesign that brought up to par with the RAM in my opinion, and the TT EB made the truck feel like my old 4.7L V8 TT GL550 acceleration-wise. That was on the std TT EB. Then I drove the powerboost EB. Holy @#$% crap. That is a monster. It was very hard trying to adjust to the HEMI after driving those EB trucks.

What I love about RAM in general is the slightly larger cab (second row vs F150), and the styling.
The HEMI growl, available blackout packages, RAMBoxes, higher stance than Fords, air ride (my truck rides like a dream), comfort (seats are prob some of the most comfortable I’ve been in).

Center console is glorious. Love the sliding system, and how much room it has for storage. Same for the storage bins in the rear floor area. Love the convenience. Also, the safety systems work really well. Adaptive cruise is smooth and seamless, and works much better than my prior >$100k GL550, which is very impressive.

What I dislike in my truck : MDS, MDS, and also, MDS... (I‘ve come to hate MDS in case you were wondering), subpar AC, brake chirp (yeah, it came back), paint quality hit or miss (had to spend a few hours to correct a some panels), Uconnect reliablilty (every now and then it goes black and stops responding), and just a general feeling that I can’t rely on the electronics due to the many issues I’ve had with things not working or working intermittently.

Had battery replaced with less than 10k miles, passenger folding mirror replaced a few months ago, overhead console stopped working a few times, etc. Many gremlins that it gives me pause keeping this vehicle past the warranty period.

Anyway, if you go to the Ford (or any other mfg) boards, and you will see issues regardless, freezing hinges, AC issues, fit and finish, EB issues, etc, etc, etc so not nocking RAM, all vehicles have issues.

Just have to decide which has the features you need/like and go from there, and hope you don’t get a lemon (mine isn’t), and I do love my truck with all it’s quirks and shortcomings), but when it’s time to shop, the F-150 will get a thorough consideration, as well as whichever new RAM is available.

Cheers,

What don't you like about MDS? I'm not a fan of it either and have been recently disabling it with the manual gear limiter.

There’s a slight felt hesitation when it switches in and out of MDS. Super minor but I feel it every time, to go along with the change in exhaust note, so I end up disabling it every time this happens.

Once I do, the Hemi is buttery smooth. A crying shame having to do this every time I start the truck (and again if I have to put it in reverse at a parking lot, since the gear limiter resets when you do this). Others don’t feel this or don’t care, but for me this is a consideration for my next vehicle, which I will make sure does not have it.

I can feel mine switch out and in MDS and well. It's also sorta noisy in MDS, kinda like it's pinging even when I put 93 octane in it. I usually noticed the noise when the engine is just lugging up a slight incline. Seems like it is struggling and for some reason stays in MDS when it should deactivate for the extra power. I usually would have to press more on the gas pedal to deactivate, but recently I've just been locking MDS out.

Turbo V6 engines are great...but I wouldn't want one in a truck personally. RAM was my choice over 2020 F150. Although their FX4 package is great... I'm not spending an extra $4k just to get a V8...crazy. plus with my Hemi Etorque...I'm getting slightly better gas mileage over a 3.5 Ecoboost.

It's the 3.92 gearing that helping to keep it in MDS. I have the opposite problem...mds kicks off more often than I'd like it to with my 3.21 ratio.

'21 vs. '21, I'd have to take a good look at the F150, especially if I had Powerboost money to spend. '20 vs. '20 I think the Ram wins easily. The interior and ride were big factors for me. The fact that I could lease it for $100s a month less

I've driven F150s with the 3.5 Ecoboost, and I own an Expedition with it. It definitely feels a bit stronger than my Hemi, especially as boost builds. But as others have said, the sound is nowhere near as good. At least in my case, real-world MPG has been pretty close between the two.

Here's the catch for me - I own 5 vehicles, and the Ford gives me more trouble than the other 4 combined, and one of those is a boat and another a 12 year old BMW convertible. Yesterday had to replace the throttle body because the gears inside stripped out, sending it into limp mode on my wife in the middle of a busy road. It feels like I'm constantly fixing little things on it. The only car I've had that gave me more trouble was an '05 Mini Cooper. My wife loves the dumb thing anyway, so it gets to stay for now, but I'm running out of patience. It might be the last Ford I ever own.

I've heard BMWs are just money pits after 5 years. Don't know much about Mini but those German brands don't last...even though they're nice for a few years.

Before I bought my patriot blue I was going to buy a Billet Silver with the black appearance package it looked way sharper than any Ford I had seen. The day I went to the dealer to go test drive it they had sold the truck. Needless to say I didnt buy from them and ended up coming across the Patriot Blue by accident it's been a solid truck. Absolutely buy the Ram you will get compliments on your truck.

I just got into a 2020 Ram 1500 Sport. The utility (RamBox + Multi Tailgate) sold me vs my 2018 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost. It gets comparable mileage and transmission is way smoother if you aren’t a peddle masher. To each their own. Merry Christmas and happy holidays
