Larger Tires--what about spare???

For everyone that's gone from stock wheels/tires to something closer to the 35 range, what did you do about your spare? I want to go to 35x12.5 on my 20" wheels. I was looking under my Rebel and saw that there are two plates on either side of the stock spare that easily be removed, but it doesn't look like there's enough room behind the bumper to accommodate the larger diameter.

When I upgraded my wheels I also beefed up my calipers. My calipers only clear now with my 20" rims. I recently had a flat and had to use my stock spare. The noise of the caliper grinding in to the inner side of the spare wheel was not pretty. I've decided that I definitely plan on getting an extra 20" rim when I swap my 305x55s to 35x12.5, but I can't give up my bed space to tote a full-sized spare around.

Suggestions?

I was wondering the same thing. Makes no sense to me that I upgrade the tires to go off-road, but then have to rely on that dinky spare if I get a flat. I'm rotating my tires today, I'm gonna see what I need to do to make a 33x1250 fit under there if at all.

I did see where someone posted a 275/60r20 fit (barely) which measures to approximately 33", but I'm still gonna see what's under there.

I've got my mod shop ordering another 20" rim with that 275/60 tire. If it doesn't fit, at least they can take care of swapping tire sizes until we find the one that does fit. I think what I'm also going to do is just buy a plug kit and this, from Amazon along with keeping a good impact wrench in my truck. If I ever get a flat again, I'll just pull the tire, plug it, and refill it with the air compressor I already have in my truck. If a plug will work for my RZR, there is no reason it won't work for my truck too! I just won't be cruising at 80+ after I plug it.

Good news is that there is room to fit up to a 33” diameter tire in the spare cavity. If you run a 33x12.50 as a spare(or 305/55R20), she’s gonna hang lower because of the additional 2” width of the tire.

Bad news is 35” is a bridge too far. From the receiver hitch to the sway bar, there’s just not enough room (on the short bed.) from what I see.

Long beds might have enough room front to back, then you just remove the side plate(s) and hoist her up. I’d be interested if someone with a long bed can verify that.

275/65R20 is a 34” tire
275/60R20 is a 33” tire

From what I see (Big Horn Crew Short bed) any bigger than 33” and your gonna make contact on the sway bar and receiver hitch. I’ll measure it at some point for actual numbers, I just didn’t feel like dropping the spare for a true measurement.
