New to the site and first time Ram/Truck owner... Looking for some information/recommendations on the best fitting and quality hard and foldable tonneau covers on the market. Look at the Bakflip MX4 but really dont want to spend $1200 after tax and shipping. Let me know your thoughts! TIA

Following....because I just ordered a soft tri fold one...and I might return it for a hard cover one. Like you, definitely not ready to break the bank, but want something more secure.

Edited...I see some on Amazon for like $600. For that amount, I can probly buy some hard plastic, and just slide it under the soft top in sections...and glue it on spots...lol. yeah I'm a little cheap...lol

Get the best of both worlds: hybrid. I bought a Gator Hybrid last year and I love it. It comes on and off easily, looks good, and keeps the bed contents dry and secure. I didn't want to spend $1200 either; and I didn't want a cover with a rail system. The Gator Hybrid lists around $650. I paid $524 after shopping around deals and finding a coupon code.

First of all welcome to the forum. I originally wanted to go with a Roll 'n' Lock (more expensive than the MX4) but I found out that it required removal of the stock cargo rails and that wasn't something I was willing to do. I ended up going with the Bakflip MX4 and have been happy with it so far. It looks great and functions the way I like. I have Ramboxes so I'm more limited in choices than you. If you're looking for something cheaper I would also give Lomax a look. They make quality covers and are cheaper than the more common brands.

It’s hard to say what’s the best but a few that seem to be popular are Bakflip, Lomax, gatortrax. The lomax being the cheaper price of the bunch look it up or search on here you several are happy with it.

i have the oem mopar cover and it’s fine for me. i use my bed more as a “trunk” than a truck bed. the way the tailgate finish close with the side bed makes it close to impossible to have it sealed anyway. i can see right through so i assume water gets it there too

I put the Tyger tri-fold hard cover on mine and it's been good so far. Had a soft cover on my last one, but wanted a little more protection. Price was decent at around $500, and the fit is very good.

As had been said many times on the forum, the money is forgotten long before the dissatisfaction with the purchase. What do you want it to do?

For me, it was to maximize bed use and have a cover that was difficult to get into as we usually travel with my truck.

That led to an Undercover Armorflex as it will fold up close to the cab and doesn't need removal to use the bed length. It also latches each section so they are hard to lift to gain access without the tailgate down. So far, 13 months it has been what I expected.

YMMV

I still like my Lomax. Sturdy and low profile.

Diamondback SE - really like mine. Not perfect, but ticks off all my requirements.

I bought the Tonno Pro hard trifold. Just a soft cover with thin aluminum panels underneath. Got it on sale for $409 on Amazon, fits and looks great. It just has the standard under clamps noting fancy, but it serves it's purpose, minor leakage from the seal, but not bad.

Lund trifold hard tonneau cover on my 2019 bighorn quadcab with 6.4 bed. Had a soft trifolding one, american brand, and was concerned about security.

If interested in the soft one, i still have it. Give me $50.00 and pay shipping and its yours, its like new. In NH can meet you anywhere within an hour if your close.

I have the MX4, and I’ve been happy with it. I had a BakFlip on my last truck as well. They make a good product and it’s worth the money.
Any issues with the install, alignment of rails or leaks? The local installer I was going to use said he stopped carrying anything bakflip or undercover this week due to quality issues as well as warranty.

How was the install of the MX4 with the ramboxes? The bakflip site only has the instructions without ramboxes.

It was really easy. The MX4 rails slide over the stock cargo rails. I had an issue on one side, driver or passenger I can't quite remember not that it matters. One rail slid on without issue just a few little pushes. The other rail was tighter, I wasn't able to budge it with pushing it on so I just grabbed a small rubber mallet and a few taps later it was on. I did use some WD40 on the stock rails prior to installation. After the rails are on it's just a matter of lining up the cover. The total install time for me was around 20 minutes.

I actually like how the rails mount on this cover compared to my last one. No clamps to come loose over time and I pity the person who tries to remove those rails!

I had a Bakflip F1 on my last truck with some pretty bad quality issues. I was very hesitant to buy another cover from Bak but choices with Ramboxes are certainly less. I have no quality issues with the MX4 and have no problem recommending it (based on what I received). Bak has certainly been known to have quality issues the last few years so hopefully they got everything worked out since they charge a premium for their covers.
