***11/17 I finally get to pick it up from dealer. After reinstalling master cylinder and bleeding- a test drive revealed a clunk from that area when depressing brake pedal. They rebled the master cylinder. On the drive home (30 miles) I still had the clunk.
The dealership did show me a pic of the damage last night... a roughly quarter of the tone ring had actually lodged in one of the crank journals at one of main bearing caps.

***10/22 I was notified engine with 800 miles on it had seized. The Tone ring(or reluctor wheel) attached to crankshaft had broken into pieces, and one lodged in one of crank journals seizing the motor.

***Truck went into limp mode 4AM 10/21 on my way to work. Drove the rest of way to work, pulled in and rattling coming from under hood pretty good. Shut off- and took a long time to restart. Left work at 8:30 AM and decided to make the 15 minute ride to dealer... got 2 miles from dealer and she cutout while in middle lane of interstate. I was able to coast over to right travel lane and finally came to rest up against the guard rail...50 yards more and I would have had a lot more room without guard rail. No noises when it quit, but once stopped-was getting smoke out of hood and the smell of electronics burning.***

So my 6 day old Big Horn with 400 miles started making loud noises from in engine bay this am on start up. Noise seemed to go down, but as I drove it, it sounded as hollow sounds. As I bought the truck 30 miles away- I immediately went to local dealer. Noise coming from inside oil pan, need to remove oil pan to further diagnose.

I declined to have them remove the pan, and they already made a call to zone rep to just get a new motor, and rep declined. I am working contact with selling dealer to get new truck, and trying to get through to roadside assistance now to have this flatbeded up to Lowell.

As expected- Roadside assistance wants to charge me $216 for towing to where it came from rather than my local dealership. And so the journey begins...

Just curious, why did you decline to the removal of the oil pan?
Good question- the 1st thing I thought of was if it to be opened up- it will go to dealer I bought it at with only 400 miles. Right now the last thing I want is to start having it torn down until I get in the hands of purchasing dealership, and begin working with them on replacement.

Did you happen to notice anything out of ordinary on the dash? Low oil pressure and maybe hi temp?

WOW! that was quick. My goodness. Please keep us posted on the outcome. You have only had it for a week or so....The White Quad cab if I remember with sunroof.. I certainly would not wish this on anyone. Will the selling dealer help and get it towed to them, vs you having to pay? I am sorry you are having issues.....Even if you are from Mass. This should not happen to anyone.

So truck is now in Lowell at 495 CJDR. I footed the $216 to get it towed there, and Lionel their service manager claims he'll get it reimbursed. I now have a Grand Cherokee to use.

I remote started the vehicle this morning and heard something under the hood...I really was not sure what it could have been. I wasn't sure if it was loud solenoids or something external hitting or what, but it was pretty loud. I drove down to my local dealer, and after about 1/4 mile it did quiet down somewhat. When pulling away from an intersection- I thought I could hear a hollow marble type sound.

When I pulled in to dealer- the writer heard it immediately. They put someone on it and probably scoped the noise to the bottom end in the oil pan. Again- they immediately though new motor and went to the Zone Rep, who said no- need to pull the pan and then tear into it. - which they would not have been able to do today anyway.

At that point, I said no to opening it up, as I knew once opened up where this would lead. If anyone was going to touch it- it would be the selling dealer. I do not want a rebuilt motor in a 6 day old truck that is still on its first fill of gas from dealer. I'm not even sure I'd want a new replacement motor, as once that shows up on its record- diminished value.

Two more tidbits- the noise did not seem to increase in timing or speed as the engine speed changed. It also did not seem to exhibit any lack of drivability either.

I started it and moved it in driveway this afternoon thinking a flatbed was coming, it was quiet at that point.
I also just heard from dealer- they just started it- and its quiet. I am at a loss for words right now...

I will say, I have had a lifter tick once or twice in mine with under 1000 miles at first remote start. It is a loud ticking, but from the top of the motor. It has not done in in the last 3000 miles, so my guess is the lifters were getting seated and broken in still. It was only for seconds though. The same thing happened to my sons 20 Warlock a few times in the first 1000 miles, at one time, his ticked for maybe 20 seconds but it went away too and has not done it since. Again, I wish you good news and keep us posted. Best of luck!

Sounds to me like something was left in oil pan during assembly, small socket, hardware, etc...I know it seems unlikely, but the symptoms say it's possible.

Just heard from dealer- again- they have heard no abnormal noises today. Obviously they will not pull the oil pan without hearing any noise.

I may just go pick it up and drive it. The next time I hear anything- break out the phone and record it.
I certainly can't imagine no damage to anything after hearing what I heard, and the local dealer claiming its inside the oil pan...I guess time will tell.

Efff that man, have them gvie you a loaner and diagnose like professionals they should be, once again crickets from Ram Cares, ill get popcorn and wait to see if they chime in man..

Noise from the bottom end is pretty apparent and wont heal itself. What exactly did you hear, did you feel a vibration?
Cut an oil filter open and check yourself

With the dealer not hearing any noise- I can't blame them for not pulling the pan. They've since started it 4 times with no noise, hell even I started it after a few hours of sitting to move it for flatbed, and I got no noise!

There was no vibrations and no loss of drivability when I drove it. No lights on dash nada.

They gave me a loaner so no worries there. If the truck is just gonna sit until they can hear something- I can drive it until I hear something and record it.

I feel your mistake was not allowing the dealer that heard the noise to pull the pan. I can't really understand taking a truck to a dealer, having them confirm that there indeed could be a problem, and refusing to let them investigate further. No manufacturer is going to approve a new engine without fully understanding what the issue is. Hopefully it won't leave you stranded somewhere in the near future.

As I said earlier- the dealer was not going to touch it. They had time to take a quick peek at it, but it would have sat until they had the time to pull the pan anyway. Once the truck was shut off and parked, there was no more noise.

What about having the oil changed, checked for debris, and sent out for analysis?
Did the first dealer do any paperwork confirming the noise?
If yes get copies and make sure it’s in the system and documents.
Then just drive it and hope it never comes back!

You dont need to end the oil out, if its making noises, trash will be in the oil filter and cutting it open will answer most questions

To me it sounds like material (machining etc) got caught in the oil pump starving the engine of oil. When it was shut off for awhile the piece(s) fell away from the oil pick up. It will likely happen again. I’ve heard of this happening on new engines in general, although rare.
