Been in negotiations with FCA for compensation for all the trouble I have had with my truck. Truck seems to be all fixed. I bought a ext warranty for 10 year 100k miles with 100$ deductible when I purchased the truck in April 2020 for 3250$. Their 1st offer is 4k and a 6 year 100k 0 deductible warranty thru FCA. I guess they did not research I had a ext warranty??? I really want 10 year as I don't put a pile of miles on the truck. But ??? is what is the difference between FCA and Fidelity platinum? What is the value of a FCA 6 year 100k 0 deductible warranty for negotiation purposes? I wish they would just give me a GOOD trade on a upgraded truck.

Thanks in advance,
Billy

My advice is always to go with the vehicle manufacturer for a warranty, in this case FCA. I don't have any experience with Fidelity Platinum, but I have had experience with other 3rd party warranty companies. And it was always more of a hassle when trying to get a covered item fixed. After the last one I will never buy a 3rd party warranty again. They often require you to pay for the repair and say that they will reimburse you. But then intentionally make it difficult to actually get that money back, in the hope that you'll eventually give up and say it's not worth the hassle. I never gave up on any claim, but it was tempting on a couple of the smaller ones. I think spite drove me more than laziness LOL.

I'm not saying that all 3rd party warranty companies are bad. I only have experience with a hand-full of them. But what I am saying is that they are no better than FCA, and they are often much worse.

I don't have an extended warranty on my current truck. I'll cross that bridge when I get closer to the end of the factory b to b warranty in a couple years. But if I decide to get one, I'll definitely see what Ziegler has to offer.

@mikeru82 , I was in the same boat. I went with Zeigler. Almost decided to wait until end of factory warranty. But when I plugged in the (close to 36000 mileage) for a quote, the quote was almost $600 more than what I just purchased last week at 11800 miles. I paid $1430 and if I had waited till end of factory warranty it was Just around $2000. so if you wait it will be quite a bit more expensive. I truly get the argument of waiting but in essence what I am doing is pre-paying for a much lower price. The “gates” where the price goes up are at 12,000, 24,000 and 36,000 miles.

To the OP @formula233 , see above.. always go with FCA warranty vs 3rd party.

Go with the FCA. I am embarrassed to say the finance guy bent me over. I have the fidelity platinum plus for 48m/60k. Mine only covers stuff that would not fall under normal warranty.
1.) Pads & Rotors.
2.) Battery
3.) Non impact headlight coverage.
4.) Wiper blade replacement.
5.) Belts and Hoses.
6.) Electrical coverage, ie fuses and light bulbs only. If my screen or any modules fail at 37 months I am SOL.
7.) One wheel alignment per year.
8.) A membership in drivers one card. Recoups some expenses due to mechanical problems on the road. Lodging, Tow etc.

I am going to get an FCA BTB 100,000K before I put 12K on the truck. My dealer made no mention of the FCA extended warranty when I bought my truck. They must be making a killing on the Fidelity ones.

When I called my Finance guy to get his price for the FCA (just so I could tell him Ziegler is cheaper) he tried to talk me into waiting until the BTB is close to expiration. There is no sense in waiting the only reason anyone purchases them is for when the original warranty runs out. So you have a warranty that is not necessary for the first 36 months, but if it is cheaper to buy early why not. The only reason I can see for waiting is if you may not keep the vehicle that long. I am going to purchase prior to 12K why pay $600 more for the same thing at 30K plus miles. I am in agreement with you, if you are committed to buying one, get it early.

@Wsmith ... bingo. In my case I’m planning on keeping this truck til the wheels about fall off. I got the Zeigler 8yr/85000mile/$100 deductible for $1430. (I only drive 8-10k miles/year.) Pretty good deal I think!

Appreciate the heads-up. I figured it would cost more the closer you get to the original warranty expiration, but with my track record I probably won't be keeping this vehicle for the long term, and I would rather not buy it now only to have to wait for a pro-rated refund if I do decide to trade it in later. Who knows, at the rate I'm putting miles on (only 5k after 11 months), I may not even hit 12k miles before the 36 month time expires LOL. Are there "gates" for time as well as mileage?

The only time 'gates' are at 3 years and 4 years. The 3 years ends the "new vehicle extended warranty" (if you haven't hit 36K miles yet) and I'm not sure what the 4 years is, but Zeigler asks if it is within 4 years of the date when the truck was first purchased.

It doesn't matter when you buy an FCA extended warranty for a new vehicle. The start date is always the day the vehicle was purchased, not the policy.

If you wait there is a price bump at 12K miles and 24K miles. Once you hit 36K the policy goes by purchase date instead of vehicle in-service date (and the price goes up significantly).

Taking the B2B into account and adding 2-3 years (and 20K miles) to the new vehicle policy, Zeigler's website tells me that a 4 year policy I would purchase after the B2B expires is roughly twice as much as if I bought the policy in the first 12K miles of ownership. This is with a $100 deductible and picked a new vehicle policy that was 2 years and 20K miles more than the post-B2B policy.

Obviously everyone's needs, budgets, and locations (prices) are different. If you are interested in an FCA extended warranty I recommend you play around with Zeigler's website to see what fits your timeline and budget.

im at 30k Spring time im going to pull the trigger on a Ziegler..

Well I went to the dealer and talked to the sales manager. He said they should just trade out my truck with a new one. So they did a trade in assessment but would not give me the value until FCA give me a "CODE" for the compensation they are offering me???? There 1st and only offer is 4k cash and a 6 year 100k warranty. I don't need the warranty already have one. I am thinking without warranty that about 7500$. They have some great deals on limited's with close to 12k off sticker if you qualify which I don't but do credit/money wise. He assured me he would take care of me and get me in a upgraded truck.. Feel like I may be getting played.

Sad to say, but you probably are getting played. They would not do this for you if it were not beneficial to them. I Ann probably over cynical.
