So I've had the opportunity to drive my truck, put on a few miles, tow a bit and see how it compared to my previous truck (2016 F150 Lariat SC w/ 3.5L ecoboost, max tow). These are my initial thoughts (in no particular order):
1. The truck rides smoother, and is more quiet than my F150 was - It really seems to handle bumps and road inconsistencies a lot better. I find that the truck doesn't seem to jump around in the back end as much as the Ford did. I have the 4 corner air suspension, so I would imagine that this has a lot to do with that (along with coil springs instead of leaf in the rear). My wife even made a comment on this.....which coming from her is a big thing.
2. I didn't realize how much I missed having a V8! - This is probably the biggest thing I noticed right off the bat. The way the truck performed and sounded.....I didn't realize I missed it so much! That Hemi sound is awesome. It sounds like such a trivial thing, but man it is so nice!
3. LOVE the auto level when towing - This is part of the reason I bought this truck. We towed our trailer last night and I was interested to see how the truck handled it. The trailer is about 27' with a tongue weight of 619lbs and a GVWR of about 7600lbs. As soon as the truck detected some weight on the back, it leveled out perfectly. No more sagging ***!
4. The truck certainly operated at higher RPM while towing than the Ford - Little bit of a caveat here....it was windy as f last night when we were bringing the trailer home. We are getting a new anti-sway hitch at the end of the month and I'm looking forward to it. The one we have now is garbage....hand me down hitch that was handed down from two owners ago. No idea how old it is. Anyway, getting back to the RPM.....I did expect a difference due to the Ford having turbos and a lot of lower end torque compared to the Hemi. In any case, I'll be interested to see how the truck performs in conditions that aren't so breezy. The truck wasn't struggling to pull though that is for sure....lots of power.
5. I find the seats more comfortable - I feel like there is more support under the butt and down the back of the leg. The 'cooling' feature also seems to work a lot better too. That is one thing I couldn't seem to get sorted on my Ford.
6. Love the way the HK sounds - I have seen some posts on the forum with people having issues with volume, clarity etc. I find the clarity is there using land based and satellite radio, as well as from tunes on my phone. No issues with the volume, mind you I don't roll around with the windows down and blasting it for everyone to hear.
7. Not sure about the power running boards yet - They work great, feel solid and do the job no doubt. I feel like I'm just waiting for the motor to fail at some point and will be one of those vehicles driving around with one hanging down. My OCD would not allow this to go on for long, but deep down I feel like it is a weak link. Its not just a Ram thing either....I've noticed it on Fords and GM vehicles too.
8. One more thing when it comes to towing or hooking up a trailer.....LOVED the zoom feature on the rear view camera. It really made getting in the right position a breeze.
9. I found the headlights to do an excellent job at night. Felt like I could see for miles with those things!
Those are my initial thoughts. As you can probably tell, I'm really happy with the truck and feel good about the purchase I made. I haven't found myself going "man I wish I had....." with this truck so far, which is awesome. Oh and by the way, thanks to those on the forum who recommended the MOPAR rubber floor mats. I bought a set at my nearest Ram dealer and they fit and look great. Also, being about $100 cheaper than Weathertech or Husky, it felt like a steal of a deal. Was wondering if anyone could recommend a good set of aftermarket trailer tow mirrors that wont scuff up the finish? Thanks again!
