In a protest free zone thanks to Colt.
I just purchased a 1500 Larime Sport in APR. I have barley had the chace to drive it for any real length of time until yesterday and noticed with ac on all day, a burning smell. Has anybody else experienced this? At first I thought it could be exhaust.

I’d say that it is the superficial oil coating on the manifold and exhaust components that is burning off and permeating into the AC vents. Turn off the AC to see if the odor is still present. If so, then you can at least rule out that there is a problem with the AC, which is doubtful.

I had this same experience yesterday. Hoping its just leftover manufacturing oils on components that get hot when driven for long periods

um, there shouldn't be any oils on the exhaust manifolds, or any where else on the outer engine. They don't coat them with oil at the factory.

I would hope not. Sort of smelled like brakes/stuck caliper mixed with burning oil but no symptoms.

What kind of driving are you doing when it smells? Your brake pads and rotors are brand new. If you didn't do a break-in then it could easily be your brake pads and rotors.

I had a smell when I first got the truck but it subsided. It happened a couple of more times as the miles went on. As I look back it only smelled first thing in the morning with city driving and was strongest after the dealership put on new pads to try and resolve my brake squeak issue.

Just my .02

It was my first long highway drive

Probably the lacquer or whatever the heck it is that they spray on exhaust parts so they stay pretty on the shelf. This might have been the first time you drove it long enough for the way-back exhaust pieces to get hot enough to burn it off.

That was my thought/hope

guys...what the heck are you talking about? they don't spray anything on the exhaust...lacquer? seriously? lol
Yes, they do. Not during assembly, but when it's made. They don't know if a part will be on a truck in three days or in a parts warehouse for a couple years. There's something on them that smokes pretty bad when it gets hot.

next time you are a dealership, go out on the lot and look under some trucks... I guarantee you they are not "coated with Laquer"...lol...can you imagine all the new vehicles coming back to the dealer with complaints of a burning smell? they would be buried!!
